We did the drive up to the summit but there’s also a hiking trail you can do. The road is narrow and bumpy in certain parts. If you see oncoming traffic, it’s best to pull over and wait for them to pass.

A wonderful place to view the beautiful ME landscape and take the time to contemplate life and all things- sit on the large slabs of rock and enjoy!! Some even had a picnic lunch on the rocks! You may even see a painter or two capturing the landscape for posterity.

Loved hiking the Anvil trail round trip. Schoodic is beautiful, uncrowded, with lots of looks outs, pull offs, little shops. I may prefer to MDI although not as much to do probably

This is very enjoyable hike with a spectacular view at the top. We took the less challenging Alder Trail up and back. Still plenty of rocks 'n roots!

If you want to go hiking away from the crowds in Bar Harbor and Acadia, come to the Schoodic Peninsula and enjoy the peace and solitude on this trail. It has amazing views from the top and is worth the trip.

This is an amazing area of our NE country. There are many great places to stop and visit. The entire area around this mountain has nice shops and beautiful scenery. It is worth the time to slow down and visit.

Don’t miss the hike up to Schoodic Head while on the peninsula. Take the Blueberry Hill trail to the head of the Schoodic Head trail. Then up about 1 mile to the Head for some great views. Take the longway down for an easy route, to take the short way down the north face for a very hard route.

It is a short hike up Schoodic Mountain, about 1.3 miles on the trail up from the parking lot. A slightly longer hike is available if you do a loop from Donnell Pond. From the top you can see Frenchman's Bay, Flanders Bay, Mount Desert Island, and lakes to the north such as Tunk Lake and Little Tunk Pond. To reach the area take Rt. 183 north out of West Sullivan and making a left turn on Schoodic Beach Rd., about 4.3 miles from the turn off at Rt. 1. There is a sign that says Donnell Pond Public Reserved Land when you turn. Bear left on Schoodic Beach Rd. until it ends in a parking area. The shortest route starts near the outhouse in the parking lot. Donnell Pond has a beach and is a local swimming hole. Schoodic Mountain has a fairly flat granite cap and you can see in all directions.

As has been mentioned in at least one other review, people seem to be confusing Schoodic Mountain with Schoodic Peninsula. Schoodic Mountain is NOT part of Acadia. It IS part of the Donnell Ponds Public Reserve Land. The hikes are different, too. This hike goes up a “mountain” with an elevation of roughly 1300 ft. There is no auto road to the top. There are, however, stunning views of the area and far out on the horizon, you can see the skyline of Acadia. There are a couple ways to do this hike, depending on what you want to do. You can extend the hike over to Black Mountain Cliffs and Black Mountain and put in a full day of hiking with some excellent views and tons of blueberries or you can dip back down from the summit of Schoodic down to the beach and cool off with a swim in the lake. Either way, the trails are well marked and well maintained for the most part. If you like hiking and don’t like the crowds of Acadia, this is a great place to get out and away. The Schoodic Mountain Trailhead can be located on Google Maps.

This was an amazing hike
Be sure to take bug spray!!!
You get a 360 degree view and you won't regret it.
When your at the top just pay attention to where your hike begins. We walked around the top of mountain and couldn't find our trail again so Pay close attention.
Must go!!!!

Why does the location for this list as Winter Harbor? It is not in Winter Harbor. It’s out between Franklin and Cherryfield. Schoodic Point is over in Winter Harbor, not Schoodic Mountain.
