“Beautiful grounds”

Area BEST AVOIDED. Bad law enforcement most famous for sickinbg their attack dogs on inoccent motorists.Nor is their any control or supervision. They can not be trusted with firearms.

Beautiful grounds

Well--it was hard to rate this since it was closed for renovations this summer, but since we were here, we at least walked the grounds. Historic property along the York River, the house dates from the 1700s but is restored to what it was like in the 1950s, the last years Elizabeth Perkins summered there. Supposedly haunted, it sits right at Sewall's bridge (fresh lobster!!!) and has wonderful gardens and a statue of a Native American...Looking forwad to another visit when the interior is open.

Interesting historic house

Interesting historic house in York village. Bought & added to by Elizabeth Perkins. All furnishings exactly as she left it. Excellent tour by 2 tour guides. Nice grounds & location by the river.

Why didn't my ancestors live here?!

Beautiful antique old home with gorgeous surroundings. Gives a glimpse of what life was like "back in the day."

Antique collectors and history buffs will enjoy.

A Must See if You Are in York!

Yesterday, we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and do the historic tour in York Village. Our favorite part of the tour was the Elizabeth Perkins House. Tours are only given on Tues, Thurs and Sat. The woman giving the tour obviously loved the house and the former owner, even though she has never met here. The House is large and you only get to visit a few parts. We had to wear booties to protect the floors. The grounds are lovely and the views of the York River amazing. Really want to find out more about Elizabeth Perkins and her mother.

Un retour dans le temps

Très intéressant! La maison est restée intacte. Beaucoup de pièces à visiter. On peut voir une photo d'une des propriétaires prise dans les années 30 au même endroit où est placée la dite photographie. Particulier! Tout est pareil, rien n'a été déplacé. WOW! Impression d'un retour dans le temps.

Beaucoup d'infos sur la vie des proprios et tous leurs objets personnels sont demeurés dans la maison. D'ailleurs, les propriétaires sont enterrés dans la cour.

6$ ou 12$ pour le forfait des musées du vieux York (la maison en fait partie).
Visite guidée qui dure 45 minutes. La guide était intéressante, accueillante et souriante. Très belle expérience!

The history of these buildings weaves and turns many times. These were most interesting people and while "conventional" seem to have eccentric and personal impressions they left behind.

Old House

This house was built by my great great grandfather Sewall and was subsequently taken over by Elizabeth Perkins, a wealthy Bostonian back in the victorian days. It has indian shutters to protect against indian attacks and arrows, is absolutely lovely inside and will not disappoint.

Colonial Revival Movement in action
Apart from an awesome setting and an above-average historic house, this docent led tour tells the story of the woman who is responsible for the colonial revival movement in America. As one of several houses in the Museums of Old York collection, the Perkins house is most notable for preserving the legacy of its owner.
