Mount St. Mary's University is the second oldest Catholic University in the United States and was founded by Father John DuBois with the help of his parishioners in 1809. There is a connection with Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton and her Sisters of Charity, as Mother Seaton apparently lived on site when she first arrived in Emmitsburg. The University is protected by the Cotoctin Mountains, where Our Lady of Lourdes overlooks the campus. The campus is a mix of well-designed nineteenth and twentieth century buildings that fit well aesthetically into the mountain landscape in part because the original buildings were constructed from locally quarried stone. DuBois (the founder), Brute, and McCaffrey Halls were built in 1924, 1843, and 1853, respectively. These early structures are well-maintained and are part of the reason why the University is on the National Register of Historic Places.

As you drive down Route 15 you can see the University to the side. You cannot miss the huge statue of the Virgin Mary high on a hill above the University overlooking the whole valley. Make sure you visit the beautiful chapel, it is well worth the stop.

Driving thru Maryland the highway is beautiful rolling hills. Divided for the most part. Lots of interesting things to look at. Take some time to pull over at the university and wander about.

Our son graduated from this University with a Criminal Justice Degree in 2017 and was offered a job in Law Enforcement shortly thereafter. This is a graceful University located in and around the beautiful Catoctin Mountains, with it's reflective seasonal foliage.
The campus is easily navigated and offers some impressive countryside views. Located in close proximity to historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and the 8th largest city in the state Maryland, Frederick. Good Restaurants and Bars located in the nearby town of Emmitsburg, Md.

My god child's graduation. The campus is just gorgeous. And the view is outstanding.And the academics are excellent.

We live near the Mount and sometimes attend Mass here. I love going on a Thursday evening at 9:45! This daily Mass is held in a chapel that is attached to one of the dorms. It is lovely. We also took a tour when my son was looking for colleges. It is a beautiful campus and the students were so nice. Our tour guide told us that the students can leave their belongings to go to the restroom or where ever and there is no worry that their items will be stolen! I was amazed. My son chose elsewhere but the Mount was always a strong contender. Now I am hoping my daughter will consider going to school here in another year!!! Anyway, just a lovely campus, beautiful surroundings.

Mount St. Mary's is right on RT15 northern Frederick County about 14 miles from Gettysburg PA. Smallish college in a nice area, set against the Catactin Mountains.
Not much to do in the area, there are a couple college type bars in downtown Emmitsburg MD.
Neat place to walk around and check all the campus out, i wouldn't go back kinda a boring place but neat to see once.

What a beautiful campus hidden in the Maryland hills near Pennsylvania forest. Much history to see to include local tributes to veterans.
Had never heard of the University until the 2017 NCAA finals. If you are considering beautiful campus with 1st class sports facilities, consider Mount St. Mary's.
A good academic reputation offering curriculums generally only found at much larger Universities.

We stopped to see Mount St. Mary's campus and visit the beautiful Immaculate Conception Chapel that is near the seminary building. It's a lovely, large chapel with a beautiful sanctuary, stained glass windows, wood-carved stations of the cross and wooden pews. So serene and prayerful.
