Beautiful and serene! We had a wonderful visit that left us nothing but a peaceful calm. Definitely worth a visit even if you are not particularly religious.

Quiet, prayerful environment, with lots of devout families. Overlooks the beautiful Catoctin Mountains and located near the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton shrine.

very nice walk if weather is good. there is a trail and grotto, gift store with plenty of religious carved images. etc ample free parking.

Since 1964, this 120 foot tall tower and statue has been an admired and revered landmark along U.S. Route 15 in Emmitsburg, MD. Ben refers to it as a navigation aid because of a story a local once related. It may be entirely apocrypha for all Ben knows, but it is a neat story all the same. For years, the statue was illuminated at night, to great effect. At some point, the powers that were decided to stop the lighting as a cost saving measure. Supposedly, some form of bureaucrat telephoned to request that the lights be turned back on at night. It turns out that the helicopters shuttling back and forth from nearby Camp David, the presidential retreat and frequent guest house, use the statue to set up their approach.
Actually, the tower was a gift from a prominent Frederick County resident, and is furnished with an 84 bell carillon. Ben and Mrs Too have heard it on occasion, but can find no regular schedule or program. One can go to the attraction website, and find a link which plays a recording of two verses of the hymn “Immaculate Mary”.
At the base of the tower is a very nice gift shop offering souvenirs and religious keepsakes to take to the folks back home.
Don’t rush. Take your time and be suffused in the placid atmosphere.

This is a lovely way to spend an afternoon if you live nearby, or if you are just passing by on Route 15 through Emmitsburg. This awesome statue can be seen from the highway and can be appreciated even more when you stand at the foot of the tower. You will want to visit the nearby Grotto of Lourdes, which is a short walk from Our Lady of the Mountain. You will definitely feel a sense of peace while you visit.

Pretty impressive gold statue rising high in the sky. Quite areas to sit and ponder. This is the beginning of the trail through the National Shrine. This statue sits atop the gift shop.

This beautiful bell tower stands 95 feet tall and is crowned with a 25-foot gold-leafed bronze figure of the Blessed Mother. It is called the Pangborn Memorial Campanile. This beautiful statue, visible for miles, is part of the Grotto of Lourdes National Shrine, at Mount St. Mary's University, Frederick Campus.
