Stunning huge house still with furniture as it was lived in by immensely wealthy family. And huge beautiful grounds.

Bit surprised to have to pay £5 for parking, compounded by the fact that the card reader on the parking machine wasn’t working. But got over that. It’s a short walk to the cafe and shop, then a longer walk to the house, plus a further walk to a playground and second cafe. Golf buggy service available for those with mobility problems. The grounds are really beautiful, especially the gardens by the house. Good playground and nice selection of food in the cafe. House was nice enough, but not busy at all which meant we were pounced on by the volunteer standing in each room. Very well meaning but meant we couldn’t stroll round at our leisure.
I was pleased that I’ve been, but wouldn’t go back because I feel I’ve done it now.

Well sign-posted and easy to find. Good parking with only a short walk downhill to the stable yard where the shop and cafe are sited (and toilets).
Tyntesfield is a magnificent Victorian Gothic Revival house and estate near Wraxall, North Somerset. The house is a Grade I listed building named after the Tynte baronets, who had owned estates in the area since about 1500. The location was formerly that of a 16th-century hunting lodge, which was used as a farmhouse until the early 19th century. In the 1830s a Georgian mansion was built on the site, which was bought by English businessman William Gibbs, whose huge fortune came from guano (bird poo) used as fertilizer. In the 1860s Gibbs had the house significantly expanded and re-modelled; a chapel was added in the 1870s. The Gibbs family owned the house until the death of Richard Gibbs in 2001.
The interior is jaw-droppingly amazing.
This was my second visit and the only criticism I would have this time was the theme NT were using "bringing the garden into the house" which spoilt the viewing of the rooms. In particular, the contents of a garden shed had been spilled across the dining room table and there were tacky paper cut-out flowers stuck to artefacts. Having an exhibition in an un-used room is fine but to spoil the main part of the house is quite another and perhaps NT need to re-assess their strategy.

We've been in the main house previously, so this time we made straight for the kitchen gardens which we especially love at all seasons of the year. There were lots of seedlings shooting up, flowers in full bloom, colourful shrubs and bushes everywhere. The Orangery is particularly beautiful, and this time there were pear trees and apple trees on display. We had a cup of coffee at the little cafe on the nearby greensward where there are lots of table and chair provided. Must give a special mention to "Julian" the courtesy bus driver who was most genial and helpful both going from the car park and coming back. It was far too hot to walk today, so Julian did a grand job of ferrying us to and from. We really love Tyntesfield! Highly recommended! .

Me and my girlfriend visited last Friday. Absolutely stunning house and gardens. Immaculately kept. Extremely pleasant and knowledgeable staff inside the house which was fantastic.
One of the best days out I've had this year, would highly recommend!

Loved our visit here, we arrived after lunch so didn't use cafe. Staff could not have been nicer, so friendly and helpful. My husband has mobility problems and they offered him a motorised scooter to get round the grounds, they have several, free of charge. Gave him full instructions on use, a mini test and a map. They messaged ahead to the house to say we were coming, as it was near closing time. The house and grounds were gorgeous and not too big, all in a nice convenient area. Beautiful views from the house and terrace. Would definitely come again for a full day.

Lived close but not visited before, and should have visited years ago
Superb house with many areas to see and a great outdoors area for walking picnics etc
Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about all areas of house and people whim had lived there
We had pasty sandwiches , ginger beer and elder flower and really good quality
Only shame was the sawmill was not open as a private function was in place but the signage at the entrance did not state date time or unavailable to general public that day
On way out we enjoyed the many plants for sale and took a peony and a rosemary away with us at good prices
Well worth the visit

The gardens are amazing and the volunteers are very friendly, the free bus was good for my elderly mum. However the options of food if you are gluten-free like myself were very poor, basically just soup which for a hot day wasn’t very welcome so I had too go hungry. Seemed quite dog friendly and dogs allowed in cafe which of been good had they had food for me.

Very friendly welcome from volunteers at both reception and the house. Gorgeous house and garden, and the gardener’s trail around the house was really interesting.

As we live in Weston-super-Mare Tyntesfield is our closest National Trust property and we're very lucky, it's a real beauty.
On arrival there is a huge car park - Summer £5, Winter £3, or free for National Trust members.
We visit Tyntesfield quite often these days. Living quite close and being members means we can just visit for a couple of hours at the weekend for a little wander and for our daughter to get her playground fix. Visiting mid to late afternoon always seems to be much quieter too - bonus!
In the past we have also visited in the morning and spent most of the day, including going inside the beautiful Victorian Gothic house and chapel, exploring the orangery, kitchen garden, play area and extensive grounds.
Our last visit to Tyntesfield was in August 2021. When we arrived at around 2pm the car park was nowhere near as busy as normal and we got a space near the entrance. We entered through the more recent and upgraded entrance building and pretty much headed straight for the Woodland Play Area. This was actually our first visit to this. Located up a hilly path into the woods, there are 4 lovely play areas. The last one is our daughter's favourite as it has a slide (and she had it all to herself!)
We also had time for a wander around the terraces by the house - they were full of beautiful yellow and orange flowers and so impeccably kept! (See photos) It's clear that the grounds staff work incredibly hard at Tyntesfield.
Overall I highly recommend a visit to Tyntesfield. This is definitely one of National Trust's stronger properties as it offers so much in such a large area. The house and chapel are a must see (be aware opening/closing times for the house have now changed to 10.30am - 3.30pm with last entry at 2.45pm, while the estate is open until 6pm!) There are several play areas dotted around, a few cafés, several toilets, book shop and brilliant gift shop, all spread out across acres of beautiful and well kept grounds.
Finally, at £14 for an adult ticket I feel Tyntesfield is fantastic value for money.

Buggies are not allowed inside the house.
There are picnic areas and access is easy as there are tarmac surfaces leading to the house and grounds.

We visited last week, such a beautiful place, lovely staff, a fabulous day out. However, we used Google maps to get there and it took us up through the entrance by the kitchen gardens. The 2 men we met who were driving down the hill were delightful and so helpful.

Again question not clear. You need to follow brown National trust signs as this will get you to the car park

We have NT membership - would we still have to pay to enter? This really confuses me, the app never says whether a place is free entry with membership! Or are they all free?! 🤔

Hi Kirstie, all National Trust places are free to enter for members, except for specific bookable events such as outdoor theatre.

We are a group of 51 OAP's travelling through and hoped to make an interesting stop at Tyntesfield.
1. How much is a ticket to visit cafe/restaurant and house
2. Would 1 hour to 1 hourand a half be possible
3. How can we rationalize the whole cafe experience to get maximum time to look around.
Thankyou Elspeth Cotton

Hello Eslpeth C and sorry for delayed response. Hopefully the information below will help
1.Not sure when you want to visit so will assume after 1st March.
If you pre-book in as a group (15+ inc. NT members) and one person pays for the entire group it will be £12.60 per person. National Trust members with their in date card are free.
Entry to the house for your group would need to be split into 2 time slots.
2. 1 to 1.5hours including time for refreshment would be a very quick visit. You should allow 1 hour in the house and a further hour to look round the gardens/estate as a minimum and then depending on what you want for refreshment 1 hour.
3. It really depends on the day you want to come and what you want for refreshment. Weekends and school holiday times are very busy. Weekdays less so but we'd probably need to stagger your group depending on what refreshment you need.
If you can email us (TripAdvisor does not allow email links in responses - head to our website for the email address) we can send you booking and further information.
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
