Inside tasting room smelled bad and had no personality at all! The staff was inexperienced, so guidance was minimal. Not his fault really perhaps management put him out too soon for working with the visitors. Outside was cold and not very pretty this time of year.

We have been to Thanksgiving Farm Winery several times and we've brought family as well to visit the winery. Doug and Maureen are fantastic. Welcoming and accommodating for any needs. We have never tried a wine we didn't like. I suggest doing the wine tasting package first to select what you want to enjoy from the bottle. Take a picnic. Take a charcuterie. Their home is on the historic registry and their wines are the best anywhere in the area. A "must visit" over and and over again!

We visited Thanksgiving Farm winery yesterday. We were greeted on drive in by Maureen who directed us to the handicap parking. Once parked, we were greeted by Doug who pointed out our table. When Doug saw that I was on crutches with a walking boot, he followed us to our table and quickly pulled out a second chair in which I could elevated my leg on. We introduced ourselves and were referred to by our names throughout our visit. We had the white Meritage which was very good. We brought food from nearby Killarney House with us and the wine paired perfectly. We sat outside, only a few tables. Maureen mentioned they have five more tables on order, due to be delivered in July. We purchased the to go wine tasting, which is five ounces of all six of their wines. We were told to do the tasting within a week, which we will. Prior to leaving, I needed to use the restroom which thankfully was on ground level. Maureen and Doug were quick to help me open doors to bathroom and wait nearby in case I needed help (on crutches). Extremely nice, attentive people who really care about their customers having a good time. I can't wait to return. Only thing I would suggest is to have some music, preferably live music even one man and a guitar would be nice. I would highly recommend to check this place out. They also have a porch on another building in which people can sit.

My wife and I visited with her parents. The owner (Doug) is a great host and very invested in making sure everyone is satisfied and enjoys the wine. Great experience, will definitely go back!

We stumbled upon Thanksgiving Farm Winery last year and fell in love with it. The character of the winery is like nothing else we’ve seen—as soon as we walked in the door, we were asked our names and from that point on the owners and sommeliers addressed us by name every time. It quickly felt like we were all a group of friends, each new person who walked in the door included. Doug and Maureen create an exceptionally intimate experience for their guests, making time spent at Thanksgiving Farm feel much more special than what we’d come to expect from other places. The wine is FANTASTIC. And it is very evident how passionate the owners are about their products; I learned more about wine in one afternoon than I had in more than 10 years combined before that point. For example, I had never known about tartrate crystals!—I definitely left that afternoon feeling much more wine-savvy. :)
The farm itself is quaint and beautiful. It has a very authentic feel to it, without any of the unnecessary bells and whistles you so often find at wineries today. The tasting room is very small, which only adds to the personable vibe of the entire farm. Tables are set up outside with large, weather-proof! umbrellas. My husband and I recently sat outside in a downpour and didn’t get wet at all. There are also tables set up on the covered veranda of the restored farmhouse.
In regards to covid, we were simply blown away with Doug and Maureen’s commitment to keeping themselves and their customers safe, all while maintaining the personable and intimate vibe that makes the winery so special. My husband and I have pretty strictly quarantined to the best of our ability, and our visit to Thanksgiving Farm Winery was our first outing since March. One of our concerns with businesses reopening has been that many places are implementing safety measures as a way of checking the box, rather than out of necessity; and thus, they are not taking things as seriously as we would like to see. This couldn’t be further from reality for Thanksgiving Farm. It is clear that Doug and Maureen have implemented different practices because they know and believe how important it is. When we first arrived, before even getting out of the car, Doug and Maureen confirmed our reservation, made sure we both had masks, and wrote down both of our names (we later found out that was for the purpose of being able to effectively contact trace if necessary—so very responsible!). Every item we used during our stay was a single-use product, including the wine glasses (we were told we could take them home with us, and that they would simply be thrown out/recycled if we left them on site). Maureen and Doug still checked on us several times and chatted with us a bit, but all from a distance (more than 12 feet). We’re very happy to have had such an exceptional experience our first time out in 7 months.

My wife and I were looking for an understated way to celebrate our wedding anniversary and an afternoon at Thanksgiving Farm Winery was just the ticket. A journey to wine country without leaving town. The rural country setting is magical. You drive through a working cattle farm before you arrive at the vineyard. It creates the illusion of stepping through a suburban portal and arriving at a rural destination that could be a thousand miles away. The grounds are immaculate, the tasting room intimate and the owners, Doug and Maureen were gracious in sharing their wine knowledge and some life stories.
With the Thanksgiving Holiday just around the corner, we purchased several bottles to share with family and friends.

Looking for something to do on a lazy Saturday I came across this gem 15 minutes from my home. Small family owned winery with a cozy but charming tasting room. Staff were knowledgeable and pleasant. They answered each question we had about their process and made suggestions about other things to do in the area. The heat was unbearable the day we visited but I would definitely go back to enjoy a picnic on the back patio. Oh did I mention the wine was absolutely fantastic! I found my summer favorite to pair with crabs.

If you find yourself on a single lane road through a farm in Harwood, MD, you are definitely in the right place. You'll soon see a charming house with a lovely porch surrounded by grape vines. Doug and Maureen Heimbuch have created something special--making Bordeaux style blends from the grapes they grow on their 56 acre property. Maureen is a wonderful hostess--happy to guide you through your tasting, explaining how they create their wine and answering any questions you might have. The employees we've encountered are equally knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Cary was helpful and fun. You'll not get pressured to join a wine club, as they don't have one. You will get a discount on 6 (10%) or 12 (15%) bottle purchases. If you are looking for value for money, this is the place. Compared to some of the fancier area wineries, Thanksgiving Farm offers quality wine at reasonable prices. Bring a picnic if you like--there are tables with umbrellas outside the tasting room. Not too far from NoVA and DC, head to Thanksgiving Farm on a weekend afternoon, enjoy a tasting and/ or a glass of wine, then drive to Deale for an early dinner--seafood at Skipper's. A perfect day!

My wife and I are always traveling all over Virginia and Maryland searching for historic sites which we like to pair with an elegant vineyard at the end our days. We stumbled upon this charming vineyard and were enchanted almost immediately by Maureen and Linda’s charm and hospitality. Their approach to customer service is unparalleled, honest and personal. Their wines are also honest and personal. They remain true to this region’s soul while using European traditional techniques to elaborate their magic. Doug, their wine maker, which we met just before living, is a true genius, and his wines reflects the true essence of our history.

The owners of this winery have great integrity. They are committed to growing their own grapes in a responsible manner and producing excellent wines without boosting the sugar content unnecessarily. The tasting room is small but charming and the owners will spend plenty of time with you if you like to explain their processes. Highly recommend!

Hi, if you're coming from NE, it might be worth a visit! I'd estimate the winery is about 30-40 minutes detour off I-95, and 10-15 minutes off route 50 (on the way to St. Michaels). It is worth it when you get there! The winery is beautiful and the owners are very knowledgeable and passionate about wine. Also, it's the only winery in Maryland that makes wine with 100% of its grapes grown in Maryland- truly a local experience!
