We liked our trip to Calvert Cliffs State Park, almost every aspect of it. The trails were not crowded in May. The information was sufficient. We hiked the trail network, but the Red Trail is our favorite. It leads to the iconic cliffs and lovely scenic shore spots. It is very easy for just about everybody with a wooden boardwalk in many parts. The nature is fascinating! You can walk by some futile but impressive, a bit weird projects aiming at eradication of reeds with plastic covers. Of course, the reeds grow around the plastic... The legendary cliffs are covered with Myocene fossils so amazing, so many, so fascinating. Certainly, material for great pictures. The visit to Calvert Cliffs State Park should be perhaps followed by the visit to the marine museum in Solomons where one can learn more on local geology..

Certainly didn’t meet our expectations. It was a mostly enjoyable hike through wooded areas to the cliffs. There are some lovely spots along the way with water trickling across rocks, lily ponds, etc. Lots of spider webs and mosquitoes, so come prepared for that. Not much in the way of cliffs, and they’re not accessible as others have noted. It is a little pricey for what they have to offer. Not crowded on a mid-July morning, which was a plus. Worth a visit if in the area, but not if you have to go a long distance.

The trail is a bit long for young kids (5 and under), but well worth it. Bring sand toys! The hike is awesome and the beach is really fun! Great family day trip.

The beach by the cliffs was off limits due to the landslides that were occurring, but the walk to the beach and back was amazing. It was 1.8 miles and enjoyed it a lot.

Lovely trails, well signed, beautiful place. We'd go back, but would be sure to do so at low tide next time.

I had not been here since I was a kid. But I enjoyed the hike and the searching for shark’s teeth on the beach. Enjoyed this state park and we could bring our dog! All together 4 miles from parking lot to beach and back—so plan accordingly! But fun hike!

While this is a nice place I must admit that based on previous reviews I was expecting much more. I drove two hours just to see for myself. If you are in the area or live local, yes, it is a nice place. Otherwise it is not worth a long drive. The hike is very simple no matter what trail. Red trail is very easy but does have several wet spots. Lots of people choose this trail. I enjoyed the orange trail. It is quiet and allowed for a "circle trip" Do not let the word Beach fool ya. There is very little of that. 25 people there and it maxes out the area. At one point I think you could walk the cliff line along the water but no longer. I did enjoy the day with my dog but in my opinion its not worth all the hype.

Calvert Cliffs is a unique park and is located less than one hour from the Capitol Beltway. The roads are excellent and ample parking is available. There is a fine playground for restless children - but the main event is the long beach that is covered with shells and small fossils. Look for shark teeth and unique shells: visitors are welcome to take a collection home!

But...pace yourself! The beach is about 2 miles away from the parking lot. The dirt trail to the beech passes through a swamp area filled with plants, beavers, turtles and frogs. Although the trail is scenic, it seems to take forever to navigate the two miles.

Returned after a few years away. The parking gets full and there is limited beach area now so plan accordingly. The hike is a fairly easy 2 miles each way (trail is 1.8 miles but it doesn't start at the parking lot). The access road can be used for an easier hike of about the same length. The beach is blocked at both ends now so you can't get to the cliffs like before. Still, we saw folks finding sharks teeth.
