Excellent sailboat charter company at a great location in the central Chesapeake Bay area. Sail Solomons also has an ASA sailing school, and you can easily see how the enjoyment of educating sailors includes sharing knowledge and skills with their charter customers.

This was the first time chartering anything other than a daysailer. There was no one favorite part of our three night/three day charter as every moment was great. The boat, a Jeanneau 391 was in very good shape and had every amenity we could have asked for and then some. The V berth had a six inch memory foam mattress which was amazingly comfortable !!! I was concerned the boat would not sail well, being a "cruiser" , but it sailed great ! Of course, the steady 15-20kt breeze was a big help. The single line mainsail reefing was easy and quick.
The first day we sailed out on the bay and anchored out for the night in St. Leonard's Creek. The second day we sailed across the bay for about 16 NM and anchored for the night on the Honga River. The third day we reluctantly sailed back to Solomons Island.

Captain Jeff and my husband arranged an evening cruise out of the Patuxent river to the Chesapeake. The boat is quite comfortable and has everything you need. It was up to us how little or much work we would do. I voted for relaxation with champagne. Jeff pointed out sites in the area and provided gentle instructions regarding sailing. This man is a teacher. He guides you into learning while allowing you to have fun. Whether you wish sailing instructions or a relaxing time on the water, Sail Solomons has it all.

We had a wonderful 3 day, 2 night charter. This was our second time chartering from Jeff and Sail Solomons. Jeff is responsive, patient and incredibly helpful. The boat was great shape and the price is more than fair. Our boat was clean, well stocked, and well organized. Jeff had good tips on where to sail and what to do and helped troubleshoot any issues that came up. We will absolutely sail with Jeff and Sail Solomons again.

I recently took the ASA 101 sailing course with Sail Solomons and loved it. The instructor, Capt. Chris Staley, is excellent - patient, good humored, low key and thoroughly comprehensive in his teaching style. A great experience from the initial signup, through training, evaluation and testing. Highest recommendation for all levels of sailing instruction!

We chartered with them once, and are willing to do that again.
The boat condition was excellent, especially considering the mid-season charter. We had no problems with sails, rigging, engine, exterior or interior, literally nothing!
We were helped with ideas (when prompted), called to the common gatherings. Docking assistance can be provided as well, because there is someone onsite 100% of the time.
Location is excellent, with facilities, swimming pool, restaurant on premises and bicycles available for a ride.

Disclaimer - I've never sailed before, so I approached this trip with a mixture of trepidation (will I be sick for three days? Will I be petrified?) and excitement. We took out Friandise, a Jeanneau 39 foot monohull with a 12' 9" beam, twin helm, fixed mainsail and furling jib. My good friend captained the boat, so I had lots of time to learn the basics, and deal with my first experience sailing while heeled hard. (that took a lot of getting used to....)
Jeff, who runs the charter service, was friendly, thorough, patient (with me) and kept this boat in super condition. Sure, there were occasional scratches, or a cabinet door that stuck a little, but for a 10 year old boat, she was tight as a drum. Even under hard sail, she never groaned or creaked inside the cabin.
The rigging was smooth and solid; the sails in perfect condition, though the nav needed some tweaking from one helm to the other. Jeff promised he'd have that adjusted immediately. I firmly believe him.
We were out for three days in the bay and had maybe 1-1/2 days of good wind, enough for me to experience all points of sail, reef a few times when overpowered, learn the ropes, and hold the helm for a while. A really terrific experience I highly recommend to anyone who likes adventure in a somewhat controlled environment.
Jeff is a great guy, and the Friandise was a solid vessel that accommodated the three of us easily.
If you like music, bring a little 3.5mm cord for your phone. The radio is not Bluetooth, but takes an audio input.

Sail Solomons is one of those special places, frequently discovered on a road less travelled, where you know you have found the true thing, the place, the people, that make all of our travels so worth while.
Sail Solomons teaches sailing, certifies sailors through the American Sailing Association course structure and rents keel boats ranging from well equipped day sailers to late model blue water cruising yachts. You will not find a better run, more friendly, easy to enjoy way to become a sailor.
My wide and I took the 2 day Sailing 101 course which follows the ASA Sailing Made Easy text, one of the best written instruction books I have ever read. All of the instruction is on the boat. Within an hour, we were taking turns at the helm or trimming the sails, keeping a close haul in a steady wind and enjoying all the exhilaration of knowing how to sail.
An added bonus, the town of Solomons is a treat with a great selection of surprisingly good restaurants, nautical attractions and that great Chesapeake Bay vibe.
