Pocumtuck Ridge is an extensive and beautiful ridge offering a range of hiking, biking, skiing and other experiences. Views to the Connecticut River to the east and the Deerfield River valley and hills to the west set the scene. A year-round treasure!

Easy to moderate hiking experience along the Ridge. Lots of shade for hotter days and a couple memorable vistas. Relish the sound of my feet striking "hallowed" ground.

This is a nice walk through the woods especially on an autumn day, also good to snow shoe. Part way up these is an ice pond where the locals used to cut out blocks of ice for ice boxes and a large boulder that has had chunks chiseled out of it, I think to make cobble stones.

I have always wanted to find this trail and hike from South Deerfield to Greenfield. We will probably finish today. we have been doing the trail in sections as we have only one vehicle. Pocumtuck Ridge has a website so you can read about it and the AMC Massachusetts Book has details, (The trail from Keets Road in Deerfield to Greenfield is a bit confusing but overall this is a fun local thing to do.)

The ridge offers a terrific short hike into classic Berkshire wilderness. The views the famous "Rock" are wonderful. Try to go in the autumn when the leaves are turning. You will never forget it.

Have lived on this ridge for 32 yrs and I wouldn't have lived anywhere else. So much to do here...hike on the ridge at several sites, Historic Deerfield, Yankee Candle, Magic Wings Butterfly..canoeing/kayaking on the Connecticut and Deerfield Rivers. Also popular for bicycling in the flatlands. Come enjoy!
