They have done a great. Lots of true history there. Thank you for your hard work by volunteers. Great artifacts Self guided tour. We were two hours.

What a great place! A little hard to find. tucked away in a bigger building, and they are not allowed to put up a big sign. It's small, just a couple rooms, but has lots of interesting exhibits from WWI up to the 1st Gulf War. Helmets, uniforms, medical field equipment, communications equipment, examples of ammunition and weapons. Our very knowledgeable tour guide Jim did a great job explaining things and answering questions. Interesting nugget of information: Colin Powell trained at Fort Devens! This is also the 105th anniversary of Fort Devens. We spent an hour and a half there and were very impressed. Free but they happily accept donations.

Visited the Fort Devens Museum and got a nice guided tour by one of the staff. While not large, its got 2 rooms crammed with interesting military items. Spent about an hour and thoroughly enjoyed it. Probably not for everyone but if you're interested in Fort Devens lore or military stuff (mostly Army) this is a worthwhile visit!

I was stationed at Fort Devens for 3 years in the 1960s, and knew a little about its history. The exhibits and a presentation by the Museum Director that I had seen a few days previous to Veterans Day weekend we’re both interesting and thorough. Worth a visit of a few hours.

Fort Devens Military Museum is a relatively new museum with an interesting history to share with visitors. It is manned by volunteers who are eager to share their knowledge of the past activities on the base and the people who lived and trained at this post. The former home of so many units, but the one that stands out is the Army Security Agency Training unit. Soldiers began their initial training and indoctrination in the security business here. After the basic security training, they were classified according to their individual competencies and skills and then sent on to additional training at other mililtary installations for further training in language skills, communication skills, and analysis training, etc. This agency was a fore runner to the current National Security Agency.

I'm 58 and can remember when it was strictly a military base on both sides of the highway. I just happened to be drive by one day and they had some static displays within the courtyard so I stopped by to investigate. Although it has a very limited schedule it is worth checking out. Many great photo's of when it was a bustling place 24/7 year round. Lots of info to read and really get a good sense of how important the base was. Looking at the area now it just looks like a typical industrial park with few signs of what took place years ago.

The reviewer was stationed at Fort Devens in the late 1960s-early 1970s and felt it was important to return and visit the museum to learn more about the evolution of the post. As others have mentioned, this museum is run on a shoe-string budget but what they have been able to collect offers a fascinating glimpse of life over the past 100 years at Fort Devens. It is a small but important piece of military history. Again, as others have mentioned, the staff are all very helpful and willing to talk about the changes Fort Devens has experienced.

The Fort Devens Museum is a small local attraction. It is located on the grounds of the decommissioned fort once a very active military fort. There is still an active air base there. The museum is located on the 2nd floor of one of the buildings. Watch for signs into the parking lot as you drive down Jackson Road. The museum is only a single room but they have a wonderful collection of military items, posters, dioramas and such for Fort Devens through the years and specifically focused on local people from the area. Please check their site for days and hours as they vary by season. Worth a short drive and a nice little museum. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Fort Devens museum is a small museum on the history of Fort Devens from 1917 - 1940's with a small collection of Korean and Vietnam era exhibits. Admission is free but donations are accepted. Periodically they have reenactments. Right now they are celebrating 100 years of Fort Devens. It's a great afternoon take.
