Met friends on a beautiful spring afternoon. Run by the Native Plant Trust, the garden highlights native New England plants in a variety of environments from ponds to woodlands and pine barrens. Many lovely blooms when we were there. Don't come expecting a challenging hike. Rather, experience a relaxing nature walk. Very nice (though expensive) gift shop. Also very healthy looking native plants for sale.

I joined a group of LIRA seniors on a tour of this place yesterday. Our tour guide was super and we all learned so much about the native plants and history of this garden. I had gone before years ago but having a tour guide made the experience so much better. Highly recommend visiting. I even bought a native perennial for my own garden from them. We were there for about 2 hours.

Yesterday I walked to the Garden in the Woods (2.6 miles one way) and it was so worth it. Such a gem! The pond with white lilies surrounded by flowers is peaceful and tranquil. You can relax on the benches scattered on the trail paths and hear the voices of the Garden: chirping birds, croaking frogs, buzzing mosquitos (the latter is not too pleasant though).
The Bog Loop adorned with blossoming yellow cacti is a festive bright spot in the Garden.
I was very happy I finally made it there - it was worth a long walk.
Parking lot was not full when I visited.

Beautiful paths through curated plantings make this spot absolutely transporting. You are no longer in the suburbs, but in a wooded garden that goes on forever.
My preteen and I spent a few hours and they flew by, taking pictures, reading about different plants, taking in the sculptures, we even monkeyed around in the family area for a bit.
It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves!
I plan to go back a few times to see how it changes with the seasons.

Save your $15/person and go to any free wooded area in MA to see 'native beauty' - tall, overgrown, unsightly grasses, an empty pond swarming with mosquitos and a small wooded area with no unique features. If you go to any park in MA, you will see more interesting flora and fauna. We went in July. There was not one single flower in the entire place. The path is gravel, then dirt and any all-terrain stroller will manage fine (we took a BOB and a baby jogger GT). The only thing I can recommend is the gift shop which carries a lot of unique gifts from local artists - really beautiful wooden toys, sweaters, garden sculptures, wind chimes, botanical-themed t-shirts, etc. And the gift shop is free to enter.

This place is amazing! It can be a little hard to find, but well worth a visit if you live anywhere in New England. Not only are the gardens beautiful, they are populated entirely by local, native plants. There are educational programs and a shop, as well, The New England Wildflower Society encourages use of native plants in your garden/yard, and this makes so much sense, especially after visiting Garden in the Woods.
Very highly recommended. Note that pets are not allowed and much of the area is not handicapped accessible.

We went the end of May and it was beautiful with lots of wild flowers. It's nice to see the work they are doing to preserve the natural habitat. Plan to spend about 1-1/2 hours if you stroll along the path, longer for further exploring.

Highly recommend this lovely garden for a walk any time of year. Be sure to take the tour if you want to know more about the native plants and get some tips for plantings in your own garden!

We found this on Trip Advisor and decided to try it before going to Ken's Steak House for dinner. Admission was $10 each for seniors, which was reasonable to support the work they do. The trails are walkable and clear , not rocky like most and well kept up. What is interesting is that you go through many diverse habitats such as a lily pond, bog, meadow etc. A few steeper grades but we just took our time. The center's mission is to restore many New England native plants that are endangered. We saw so many different and unusual plants with their descriptive signs that sadly we had never seen before. Many for sale in pots ready to plant at the visitor center. Just more interesting and varied than the usual trail walk

great garden spot for walks through the woods and around the pond, seminars are interesting, and plant sales (native mostly) offer good deals on plants that do well around here, attracting pollinators if you like, and surviving the climate.

The Garden in the Woods asks that you leave pets at home when you go visit the Garden. Only Service Dogs are allowed.
Is it wheelchair and walker accessible for seniors?

Wheelchairs maybe. Walkers would be difficult because the walking paths are not all on even ground!
