We visited on a perfect Summer Sunday morning after having breakfast at a local spot. Upon entering the "Private Way" the security guard stopped us and said that we couldn't go in to see the lighthouse because "there are already too many people there". I suggested that we wait a while and see if cars exit and so we could enter. Mind you, the roads are private but the lighthouse is a public space. The security guard became obviously agitated and insisted that I'd be "waiting for hours" and he couldn't allow that so I'd have to leave. As we spoke a car approached to leave the street and I asked him to please ask if they were visiting the lighthouse, perhaps now there was room for us to pull in somewhere. He said "no! I'm too busy to ask every car where they're going" (Yet he's asking us, lol.) I asked for his name and company and his entire attitude changed. He said "Frank" and pointed to a logo on his chest inaudibly mumbling his employers name. Then he said of course we could drive up to the lighthouse. We looked at each other and just shook our heads. Anyway after that bizarre encounter which I hope you don't have when you visit, the lighthouse and the grounds and the lengthy breakwater that affords amazing views of Gloucester are even worth putting up with Frank, the ignorant security nazi.

The drive itself was fun, just to see a different area and the site where the lighthouse is located has multiple vistas.

We ignored the private drive, followed the GPS and glad we did! The houses were amazing and the walk out to the end of the rocks was really cool. Glad we made this stop!

Plug it into your GPS and don't let the discouraging "Private Road" signs scare you off. The lighthouse is just beyond the yacht club with plenty of parking and great views of the lighthouse, breakwall and wonderful sunsets. Good photo ops.

Car got towed for being 10 minutes late. Lot closed at 8pm but I didn’t pay attention to the signs. Lots of trash on the breakwater. Who is supposed to clean it?

One of the best light houses of course. There is a water break with rocks, not too bad. They are relatively flat with some small gaps. Just need to pay attention when walking on them. I do think my pics from the coast are better.

We traveled to this location with our bicycles from our hotel. It is a very beautiful ride and gorgeous finish point! Don't miss this when in Gloucester.

Nice drive out there on private roads, but we couldn't go up and view the lighthouse and also couldn't figure out how to get to the breakwater, where we saw people walking. Maybe the tide was wrong.

We turned back once because signs are posted at two separate points that insist you're not allowed past that point and you're trespassing on private roads as you make your way to this spot, but we decided to take a chance and were amply rewarded with our perseverance! You cannot park on the roads at any point, which do belong to private communities, but you're completely allowed to drive in and park in the specific parking lot for this site, which is past the yacht club.
The lighthouse is closed and not open to visitors, but what you can do is park and climb down to the beach and then (cautiously!) walk all the way down the breakwater for some lovely views of the Gloucester harbor and back at the lighthouse.
On a whim, I saw this spot on the map and suggested it to my partner as a place where we might take a picnic dinner and watch the sunset (or get close to it as the gate on the parking lot closes up at 8pm and the sun was setting just a bit later than that). While the breeze made things too difficult for a successful picnic, I would still absolutely recommend this spot to nimble-footed visitors who might want to walk the breakwater. Be advised that you'll need to walk a small and uneven path that skirts the fence around the lighthouse to get to the breakwater, or go down to the beach and hop up to the breakwater path. On a calmer day, it would have made for a nice stroll, but naturally the wind was up and we got quite drenched from sea spray. We had to make a point of watching our step so we wouldn't trip or slip as we walked back, hustling all the while so we'd reach the car by 8. I probably wouldn't advise taking children all the way out unless they're older and careful or it's a very quiet day. Still, it was all quite bracing and we laughed and enjoyed it. We made it back to our car with about ten minutes to spare and then chatted with the security guard, David, who locked up the gate at 8pm. He had a wealth of information about the history of the lighthouse and the coast guard, and he had his own fascinating backstory himself. While we talked past 8, a number of cars came up but were turned away, as you cannot legally park anywhere but in that lot and you're out of luck after hours. Heading in and out, you'll get to drive past some truly impressive homes along the way, but even if the roads are private, the public is completely allowed to drive to this rather tucked-away spot and enjoy the beach and the view as long as you park in the lot.
In short, if you're looking for something that feels off the beaten path where you can enjoy the sights of the sea and the harbor without crowds, definitely make the trek out here.

This lighthouse is great. It's a little tricky to get to though. You follow Eastern Light Blvd all the way. You will have to travel on a private road but it is open to visitors so don't get discouraged when you see the "private road" signs. The road will take you right up to the lighthouse.

The location is open, however you can't get to the Lighthouse... unless there's a Tour being conducted. we traveled Sept 2017. it it completely fenced off. Don't be discouraged by the private drive-ways to private Housing Communities, once past you will arrive at your destination.

I don't know of a phone number... sorry... we drove to this Lighthouse... although we were unable to actually tour it, we were close enough to take photos of it, walk around it. I hope this helps.

Eastern Points Lighthouse is the private residence of the local Coast Guard commander and family. It is not open to the public.

Why is there so much confusion on paid parking, no parking fee. No signs to lead a visitor to the site? Private road signs to discourage? Why make it so difficult for one to enjoy something so historically part of America's?

i agree with brdhouse: there is a very small rough dirt parking lot with a box to pay for parking (honor system).
