Spectacular views, picnic spots, drive up and enjoy the Summit House views if you are not a hiker. Limited hours inside. Road closes after the long weekend in October.

We drove up to the summit and walked up to the Summit House. Beautiful views all around! I couldn’t believe how far out we could see in all directions. Looks like you could see to the Berkshires and the Green mountains of Vermont.

Great park with views of the Connecticut River valley. The summit house has interesting displays and rangers were on hand answering questions and pointing things out from the observation porch. You can drive or hike up to the summit. Truly a beautiful place to visit

We visited during a recent trip to the area and enjoyed the incredible views at the summit.
We started at the Halfway Hike and it was too steep and incline for me so my finance hiked and I drove to the top. We arrived at the same time proving the hike to be a short one covering a lot of elevation.
From the summit we could see as far as Hartford and had a nice view of Amherst and the surrounding mountains.

I'm not an experienced hiker by any means. I definitely had to take a few more sit-down breaks than the average hiker. On a clear, warm day, this place is awe-inspiring. There were lots of other people hiking at different levels of skill, and I noticed quite a few people sitting alone reading or writing. It definitely is a place I could spend all day exploring.

This is a great hike for families with children, beginning hikers, avoiding ticks and hikes with your dog.
You can either hike up the paved road or take the various trails through the woods. The trail to the top is not difficult (but a bit steep) and at the top there is plenty of places for picnics and opportunities for taking photos.
For those wanting a longer distance, you can meet up with other trails to hike the Mt Holyoke Trail system.
This is a very good starter trail system for younger children, or a good shorter hike if you don't have much time.
Great views of the valleys, Mt Tom and beyond.

The views in October were spectacular!! The hike up was a rough one for a novice. There is parking at the summit for a five dollar fee with MA plates, ten dollars for out of state vehicles. A must attraction if in the area.

I go there regularly. I park on Old Mountain Rd and go to the top. Beautiful views there!! The trail is not very difficult. It takes about 1 hour to go to the top. I will try in winter, snowshoeing!!

You can either drive up ($5) or park at the base for a moderately challenging hike/bike ride. The 1st part of the paved road is the steepest then it get's a bit easier (then challenging again) after the mid parking lot. You can either walk the road or take the trails. At the top is an old closed hotel with benches, bathroom and a water bottle filling station. There are a couple picnic benches and some areas to sit and admire the view, and what a view!

It really varies! I personally have never been stuck at the bottom, with the gate locked but what I believe happens is, due to very limited parking( you are at the summit of a mountain ha! so that can’t be helped) I believe that once the parking spots are taken, they close the gate until more spaces open up. This park is closed in winter months but we have been up in November ( view is astounding anytime of the year)! I would advise you to arrive as early as possible before parking spaces get taken( go to their web site to check times) and “especially if you hope to get a scenic picnic table!” You can put items on the table to secure it and then walk around, hike some trails, walk around the porch of this beautiful hotel, taking in the view and just enjoy this lovely park.

This park is located on 10 Skinner State Park Road in “SOUTH HADLEY”, MA! It is very easy to find! Coming from Rt 1-91 , you would take a right getting off at the Amherst exit, take a right onto Rt 9 and head “towards Amherst” but you will then go into Rt 47! This park is “located in SOUTH HADLEY!” Once on Rt 47 you will head to Skinner State Park Road. This road will appear on your left( well marked). You can see the whole hotel located at the top of this mountain from all over, especially from 1-91! Have fun!
