Nice, clean state park. Staff is very friendly. 1/2hr to boston, 1-2hr to cape, 1/2hr to nastucket Beach. So good location for travelers. Sites are spaced out but on the small side. We stayed in "e" section. No issues. They offer fresh water & dump station

Quiet campground.

Large sites that I could see from walls around the loops. Very pet friendly too. The staff was very helpful over the weekend.

great place, lots of adventure here growing up as a kid. My family was the 2nd to enter when they opened in the 70's. We returned every summer as it was no further to work for Dad and the camping rates were cheaper than keeping the power on at home all summer. Miles of bike trails and several good fishing holes. The boy scouts used to jamboree in a remote area of the park away from the campground. As a kid I often ventured out on my bike for hours and though my folks put their trust in the chain-link fence that surrounds the park, I enjoyed much of the local towns as well.

A large, easy series of roads for walking or biking

Wompatuck was a surprisingly well paved and laid out park. Easily accessible by car, it can also be biked into if you park by the Cohasset MBTA commuter rail station. A gravel trail leads you into the park itself.

The park is a former US Military ammunition depot, so there are paved roads throughout, but no cards are allowed on them. This makes is a good spot for long walks or bike rides that maintain social distancing from others, and means even road bikes can ride throughout the park (though it does get quite bumpy due to the lack of maintenance.

The park is pretty busy, and you can expect a fair number of people if the weather is decent. The nature views are less exciting than nearby Blue Hills, but there are some good spots to see the reservoir and other water features - just don't expect sweeping vistas from the tops of hills.

Overall this is a good, large park where you can get 10-20 miles of biking or walking in. It's pretty moderate in its grade or difficulty, so it's good for beginners as well or people just out for a walk.

Love the hiking..but the campgrounds are filthy!

I have never seen such dirt. They do not clean the campground bathrooms at all.. I had to cut my trip short.. disgusted. A blemish on Mass and on what is a beautiful park.

Boston Area Beauty

Wompatuck State Park is located south of Boston in a small town called Hingham. Access to the Boston public rail system was convenient and provided access to many parts of the Boston area. The park itself is quiet and wooded. The spring was closed when we were there and we did not explore the park much. We utilized this park as an economical place to stay in the Boston area. The surrounding town of Hingham is absolutely beautiful! It is a quaint seaside town. We found access to groceries and laundry services convenient. If the ladies shower stalls were cleaner, I'd give this park a 5 star rating. I like clean bathrooms and shower stalls and while the bathroom sinks and commodes were clean, the shower stalls needed to be power washed with bleach and that would have improved the situation considerably. Just wear shower shoes and don't touch the shower walls or floor.

Great trails and cool fresh water spring

Park is huge and lots of good trails and a nice welcome center with some historical info. Cool fresh water spring that you can fill up at. Some cool old bunkers (unfortunately some graffiti - seems like it is a trend around the area to tag historical stuff - such a shame)

Great to Walk or Ride

I spend a lot of time here, these days mostly walking the dog but I have also ridden a great deal of the mountain bike trails.
The trail system is well marked and the trail map is a very good representation of the park.

Peaceful camping in a Boston suburb

Very quiet CG. Sites are spaced nicely. Electric only, but there are some water spigots spaced throughout. This is a very reasonably priced option near Boston. The park is an old military base, and some of the bunkers are still visible.
Take mass transit into the city. The Braintree T (train/subway/ferry) station is about 20 min from the CG, and downtown is a 20 min train ride away. The ferry is even closer at Hingham Shipyard, and goes to Logan and Boston (aquarium/Long Wharf) for a fun commute into the city.
We chose a 7 day pass for unlimited train/bus rides, giving us some very welcome non-walking options after a long Freedom Trail day. The ferry was included in our 7 day pass (but call to verify).

Wompatuck - a local jewel!

Wompatuck State Park is one of the South Shores' hidden attractions. We are so lucky to live close enough to visit it a few times a week. if you enjoy the outdoors this park has so much to enrich your experience: biking, hiking, snowshoeing, x-country skiing, kayaking, camping - even snow-mobilimg. the park is big enough for you to be completely alone in nature despite the many people who walk there every day with their dogs. A map is essential (provided at the visitor center) and even then not all trails are on the map so hiking skills are sometimes required. DCR maintains the former Navy ammunition depot annex where old bunkers and the remains of an extensive railroad are still evident. it is a wonderful place to explore for both you and your dog.
