I am at the Gale Free Library at least once a week. The atmosphere is a perfect combination of old and new, combining the original structure and more recent building. Great selection of books, audio, video. Access to CWMARS to get titles from other libraries.

This is an outstanding local library with three stories of books in an historic building. Upstairs is a dedicated Children's Library, the main floor is nicely laid out with access to fiction, movies, recorded books on CD, and a teen section plus the info desk and checkout area. The lower level is primarily non-fiction and a great used book shop that is run by volunteers (I think) and open periodically. One of the nicest small town libraries I've ever been in anywhere.

i am member here and come here only as needed. The place is dark and smells moldy. They have upstairs for kids and downstairs for music and more books.
The movie selection i find is fair. I always thought that library have to be open, with a lot of light this is not the case here. Dungeon comes to mind.

Having frequented many Central and Western Massachusetts libraries in my time (including a year working at the lovely Northborough Free Library), I can say without a doubt that the Gale Free Library is one of the nicer libraries around. The building is beautiful with ample space and plenty of selection from books to DVDs to audiobooks. The children's room is wonderful and my two year old adores everything about it. Staff are always helpful and friendly.

I pass the library on my way home each night and on Thursdays I stop in to browse the used book cellar. I write books, read books, collect books, and the Gale Library has become one of the great sources for me.
I also visit on Saturday morning, as the used book store is also open then too. The books are $2 for hard cover and frequently less for special occasions. I find lots of children's books for the grand kids, which I let them play with when they visit and take home with them when they go.
The Gale is an historic building in town and a real gem. It's full service as a local library should be and I'm happy it's only steps from home.

When I moved to Holden, this was the first place I located. It is an older building with history of its own. It also has a modern extension. It is everything you could want in a library especially since it is not a large town. The people who work here have become friends. A real Gem in Holden!

Beautiful building,great staff and good selection of books.Spent my childhood here happily.I hope it's around for another 100 years.
