Do not and I repeat - DO NOT make a reservation here. I have tried twice and both times I paid in advance and made reservations and arrived and could not get in or they were out of boats. The right hand isn’t speaking to the left hand. Terrible management and leadership. Sad because it has such potential. I’d love to say this is due to coronavirus however last summer was a nightmare too. I’ve tried three times... over it.
There are so many other MA options. Try somewhere else!!!!

A local hidden gem. Affordable, nice and knowledgeable staff who make spending time on the water safe and enjoyable.

A variety of boats to take out: kayaks, paddle boats, sail boats, row boats on a summer day for a fun and relaxing afternoon. There are at least 4 sites, the most popular seem to be Hopkinton and Natick. Invite friends, bring a lunch and advance your boating skills. They also run a Boating camp for kids in the summer months.

This is a great place to take teens and family. We rented a paddleboat and took our time going around the pond. They don't charge until after you come back, so the rates are based on how long you're out on the water. They have small boats, paddleboats, canoes, paddleboards. Lots of teens enjoying the activities. They provide the life jackets for all and have kid sizes through adult.

My family has enjoyed the Boating in Boston rentals multiple times at Hopkinton State Park. We have gone on gorgeous weekend days where we are concerned we would be waiting for a rental and we never have (we don't canoe or use sail boats so I can't comment for that experience). There are plenty of paddle boards and single and double kayaks and the lake is perfect for beginners and casual paddlers. It's a calm lake with plenty of room to paddle and many spots to land a boat/board and take a dip. The staff is always friendly and we are now season pass holders!

This is a beautiful place and I'd give it a much higher rating but for the reckless behavior of a Boating in Boston staff member operating a motor boat on the water at Hopkinton State Park. The wake from his boat nearly capsized my kayak and my husband's; I was able to turn just in time to minimize the impact while my husband was unfortunately soaked. The wake waves had white caps when they reached us.
Shortly afterwards, at the dock, we addressed the young man who'd been operating the boat and he made it even worse with his smug attitude and an "apology" that was as sincere as a loan shark being sorry for charging interest. It's absurd, and frankly pretty scary given this incident, that there don't seem to be adequate training, rules, or maturity requirements for staff operating motor vehicles on the water.

I live around this area and love this place. Great for families and lets you be a little more independent than most rentals places. I love exploring the islands and my kids love there camps.

I'm a family season pass holder for Boating in Boston and took the family to Hopkinton State Park this past weekend. We arrived just before they open at 10 am. We were the first customers of the day. It was a quick and easy experience. My son is 11 and he has a great time on the water. We each had our own kayak. The water is a good size. It takes about an hour to kayak along the banks around the full body of water. They have small islands and a few other landing spots if you would like to stop and get out. They parking at the boating place only offers a few spots. Just past the public docks, they have more parking. I would say it is about 100 yards away from the boating place. I have found even on a busy weekend to find parking in the second lot not an issue.
I found the kayaking relaxing and peaceful. The lake has two sections one that is near the road way and can be noisy and another side away from the roads that if you looking to relax is a great place to rest and enjoy the nature. Each time I go, we see ducks and turtles in the water. This weekend a large family of Geese were swimming on the side away from the road.
Unlike the Natick location, the Hopkinton location does not allow gas power boats on the water. So you do not have to deal with the wake from boats speeding by which can be an issue for kids. We mainly go to Hopkinton instead of Natick for that reason .

I teach for an alternative high school and all last week, June 6-9th different groups of students were kayaking at Hopkinton State Park. I'm told the other groups had fun. We were the last group to go. Now, I've hiked and run through this state park, which I love, but I have never done the boating there.
We had over thirty students and a balanced ratio of adults. On staff at the boating place there were 4 people. They told us that it wasn't safe to go swimming in the water that day so I asked what would happen if someone fell in. They said that rarely happens, which technically isn't an answer.
There were no basic boating safety tips, just pair up, and get into a kayak. Once we were out on the water, the wind picked up and the gentle waves became whitecaps. It remained like this for the rest of the visit.
Several students fell out of their boats and the staff didn't do anything. Thank goodness for life jackets. By that time, myself and some other staff were back on dry land and we inquired about how they planned to rescue the students. One girl told me very nonchalantly that nether she nor the other kid were trained to use the motorboat and the other two staff, ran to Target. She also added that the students might be "panicked" but she "didn't get paid enough to care." The kid who was with the girl got into a kayak and went off to the group at the end of the lake. It was a nice thought but seriously, what was he planning on doing? He only had the walkie-talkie with him and no gear.
Another teacher was with the students who fell out of their boats and advised them to leave the kayaks by the shore and walk back with their life jackets and oars. The staff wasn't very happy about that. The rest of us organized the students and made sure everyone was safe.
What would have happened if someone had drowned? Thankfully that didn't happen but I was so disappointed with the lack of concern, leadership, and responsibility.
I will never go there again, even on my own time.

Fantastic way to spend a day. Well maintained boats and kayak's, life preservers and instructions. Weather monitoring with weather warning. Clean, beautiful location, a well kept secrete beloved by the locals.
