Great place for hiking and dog walking. Nice wide trails for horses, although some bike riders can be a bit rude and ignorant of basic trail etiquette. The little side trails are really nice for hiking as well. There is a map of the trails available when you get there. Rangers are very helpful and friendly. Love this place!

Just a heads up: This used to be a great place to hike or walk your dog and view the wildlife. Unfortunately in the last year or so it has become increasingly infested with mountain bikers. ACE have allowed the New England Mountain Biking Association to install an ever increasing patchwork of trails to the extent that now the area is a dense grid of ACE built roads and bike trails and there is no longer much undisturbed woodland left for the local wildlife.
So be warned, you're going to have to frequently step aside for groups of bikers; weekend days in summer the parking lot overflows since an hour long pre- and post- ride gear discussion seems to be an essential part of the mountain biking experience; and in winter NEMBA groom every trail and road surface in sight which makes for very hazardous pedestrian conditions when the groomed surface refreezes overnight.
A prime demonstration of the Tragedy of the Commons.

6/24/21 The road to the beach is closed, so you have to walk through the park from Hartford Ave to get to this beach area, which is 1 - 1.5 miles. I was hoping to metal detect for a while (with permission), but the horse flies are so persistent on the beach that I had to leave. They are also working on the access road, so it is all dirt with bulldozers.
June 2021: The WATER IS NOT SAFE TO SWIM OR WADE IN. So, it's really not worth it. Bugs are unbelievable.

A nice 4-mile loop through the woods, fields, and a scenic dam. Trail is shared with horse riders and dog walkers.

Wonderful little getaway for the day my kids and grandkids have been a few times and enjoys it love the surroundings and it is great for family outings

Well maintained picnicking area around Harrington Pool but not easy to find unless yu are from this area. Lots of trails. Play areas for children. Clean toilets and changing areas. Small but neatly maintained beach by the pond.

West Hill Dam Park has two parts to it: the park, which is has two small sandy beaches on the West River that are ideal for families with younger children, and the hiking trails through forest maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Access to the park is $5.00 per day or $40.00 per year. Parking at the dam is free, but access to the park is no allowed. This is a nice spot for picnicking, fishing, and birding at any time of year. In summer, longer daylight hours allow for sunset watching from the butterfly garden. Trail running, dog walking, horseback riding and off-road cycling are popular here. In winter, the wide 4.0 mile forest trail is perfect for X-C skiing and snowshoeing.
