We visited on a rainy afternoon in June. It was mid afternoon and the museum was supposed to be open but everything was shut, which was really disappointing. The memorial and cemetery are impressive and naturally very moving.

Visit of 05/08/24,
A somewhat lost site but with a strong atmosphere...
The memorial is grandiose but could do with a facelift.
Too bad it was closed on a day of commemoration like May 8... Of course it's not November 11 but hey, it remains in the theme of memory.
In conclusion: memory activity, free, don't hesitate to take the detour.

The main reason for my overseas trip was to visit Delville Wood. We spent a few hours there on the first day and decided to return again the next day.
Their website contains many important documents and a map, which I read before I set off overseas and found this helpful when visiting the museum and the area.
The memorial and museum contain a lot of information, well presented in a sensitive and informative way.
There is a delightful South African lady working in the cafe/shop.
Note that the museum is closed on Mondays

This is a wonderful memorial dedicated to the South Africans who fought at the Battle of the Somme. In addition to it being a memorial, it is also a museum containing a fair amount of information about the South African troops. Very much recommended.

I visited here while doing the Somme Remembrance Trail. I would have got a lot more out of the memorial had I remembered my glasses. I left them in the car which meant a bit of a walk back to the car park to get them. I didn't have the time for that and so I had to squint at the signs in the South African National Museum and after a while I couldn't really read them. I did enjoy my visit though but since my wife was waiting in the car I didn't have time to walk through the wood. I'd like to do that another time though. Definitely worth a visit.

After finally managing to vista the Cemetery, Originally meant to visit in 2020 but Covid-19 came along.
Went to the British & Commonwealth
(Mainly British) Just across the road from the South African memorial,
Well kept and looked after, Very poignant that it was a Warm and Sunny and quiet May Afternoon, Total opposite of the Conditions during the Winter the Soldiers had to contend with.
Visited the SA Memorial afterwards
And warked through the woods
The area's where the Trenches are you can walk following the streets names they were given ,Buchanan Street
Bond Street The strand Rotten Row.
There is definitely a Atmosphere in the Woods , I was the only one at the time But it was easy to imagine the Horrors that Happened there.

A moving and highly informative memorial and museum to the South African armed forces. The accounts of the conflict in Delville Wood bring to life the horror of war and the bravery shown by the soldiers. The surrounding woodland is beautiful but with the outline of trenches and shell holes still clearly visible.

How much are the admission /entrance fees, and are there parking and camping sites nearby available? Open all year? Thank you

Admission is free
The site is open all year but the memorial closes in December and January.
There is plenty of free parking at the information centre / museum.
Hope this helps.
