I enjoyed the actual walk, but couldnt get myself away from the enormous amount of flies. Not sure what type of flies these were, but i didnt like them, thats for sure. Looked a little resemblent of mosquitoes but were black instead? Anyway, we also kept on seeing these joined together, flying around in big chains of about 3 or 4. Also saw a dead bird lay on the floor rotting. Much preferred the walk around yeoman hey.

What a beautiful part of the country. Fantastic views. Nice walk around the reservoir - you need walking boots if you are doing both reservoirs as very muddy in parts. Nice that's there's loads of tracks off to explore if you want.
Toilets, ice cream van and a hot drink van on the main car park. Car park is only small so you need to get there early or you will have to wait for a space. £2 for 4 hours charge on the car park. Will definitely be back and would recommend.

such a lovely place.. Sheep everywhere. High flying birds souring over head. #only a short walk from the great campsite we stayed at WelliHole in greenfield.

My family and I had a day out at the park today for the 1st time, we had an amazing time, the reservoirs and the surrounding areas are stunning..... but to our dismay on leaving the park we found a parking ticket attached to our car. Other parks we have visited have been free or there has been signage in full view on entrance to the parks..... not there at Dovestones...
After a long drive down the road to the car park there is nothing......'Why are there no signs on immediate entrance....to warn users of parking charges and restrictions? I am happy to pay a parking charge...but come on Oldham Council please make it obvious to 1st time users on entrance to Dovestone Reservoirs that a parking charge is applicable.

The majority of the paths around this and the adjacent reservoir are flat. There's a slight incline up to the Dove Stones themselves and then the path continues but becomes more of an ascent with some rocks to negotiate. The official car park has toilets and information boards about the trails you can walk. Well worth a visit.

I visited today to see our friend's memorial tree in celebration wood. Truly stunning place but I have given it a 3 star as the ladies toilets in the main car park were an absolute disgrace. They smelt awful and there was faeces all over the toilet seat in one toilet. They clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long while by the smell. In covid times cleaning should be increased not decreased and i assume my parking charge covers the toilet cleaning? I visited at 9.30am so not yet busy. When i left at 12.00pm I could smell them from outside so didn't dare go in again. Shame they let down such an amazing place but they are the only toilets so I must write this negative review

Spectacular views and great walk for all abilities, just needs a nice cafe and some amenities and it would be perfect. Limited parking for a popular location makes it a challenge but worth a visit.

A definite place to visit if you’re in the area .
We were camping at well I hole farm and walked here (you can cut through the field and woods at back) it’s a couple of miles to get to reservoir but worth it if you can as parking can be tricky.
Ice cream van here too which was a bonus !

I really pretty place for a nice walk, suitable for every age and families. There's a small ish pay & display car park on site that's cheap (currently 60p for three hours/£1.60 for the day.) I took my 15 year old son with me and we didn't just walk around the whole reservoir but also followed the path up the waterfall at the far end. I had no idea this path lead up such a steep incline alongside the river and waterfall... It was almost a scramble over the large rocks and crossing the river precariously. Its definitely not suitable for younger or less confident children/people. However the climb to the top was worth it for the amazing views. Those less adventurous can have a pleasant walk around the Reservoir that has paths wide and suitable enough got walkers, cyclists and prams.

Is the car park the best place for parking or are there other places available nearby?
Is it safe to visit Dovestone Reservoir all by myself? I have no one coming with me.
Do you recommend me to go or is it too risky? I get a bit hesitated when visiting remote areas when I'm alone.

I doubt it. They have a lot of wld fire up there.
So I imagine its frowned upon
There was some work being done around 12 months ago involving a bit of a detour. Are these works now finished

We were there in late summer 2019, and saw no works
in nearby roads, on car park, or tracks. We walked along
the three reservoirs and climbed via Birchen Clough,
followed the main path to Fox Stones Cairn, from which
we descended to the car park.
