We had a buggy ride with ‘lovely Clive’ as our guide. He was so well informed that we were able to fully appreciate the symbolism and beauty of the Arboretum. We came away overawed by the huge sacrifice of those who died to keep us safe.

Went here with my partner today to look around it really is such a well kept place everything is so beautifully laid out it was really thourght prevoking and peaceful but there was one thing that let it down the way i was spoken to by the driver or assistant on the land train me and my partner were trying to decide on which way to go and the man came over and offered his assistance i said we should go one way as the other was out the way the man replied what do you mean out the way so i explained what i meant i said well that way is back by the car park and then he repeted himself and said what do you mean out the way it was the tone in which he used and how he said it that i didnt like i dont know if i caused offence in some way or if he thourght i meant something by it but that was not my intention at all you dont go somewhere like that and be offensive i didnt pull him up on the way in which he spoke because one it wasnt the place and two i dont know if he is ex forces and i didnt want to be disrespectful towards him but had that of been anywhere else i would of said something back i know that somebody reads these reviews and i dont want the man getting in trouble but staff really be mindful on how you talk to guests because for the whole day it made me think of what i had done or said to be spoken to like that or if i caused offence.

Enjoyed a day here with a local group. It is a beautiful place to visit . There are so many amazing memorials to see in such a beautiful setting. The armed forces Memorial was especially thought provoking. We went on the land train which gave a good commentary as we travelled around and then spent time wondering at our leisure. Several members also hired mobility scooters for the day. There are lots of volunteers all around the site who were really friendly and informative. Lunch in the restaurant was good and excellent value for money.
Entry is free, land train was £7.50 and hire of mobility scooters £10 for the day.
All in all an excellent day out.

Everyone should visit this place. Unfortunately we had limited time. 10am -2pm. We were welcomed by an extremely helpful lady. Firstly we did the buggy tour. Our guide, a CDT teacher, was fantastic. His knowledge and delivery excellent. As time was limited we then did the land train tour. It was also wonderful with an excellent commentary. The various memorials and the grounds have been so carefully and imaginatively thought out it is a must see. Finally we enjoyed a tasty lunch in the restaurant. We needed more time.

I'm a Royal Navy Falklands War veteran and return regularly to the NMA to reflect and remember those affected by events then and ever since. On this occasion, my wife and I were accompanied by Friends who are Falkland Islanders and who experienced the horrors of what happened in 1982. My wife and two of our friends are disabled and we have a Blue Badge.
We booked our visit on 4th May to arrive at 1100 and arrived on time. The man on the entrance couldn't have been more obstructive or unhelpful if he had tried and he certainly tried hard enough! He told us that there were no Disabled Spaces left and that there was no spaces available for our vehicle. He told us that we would have to park in the secondary car park and walk back which I refused to do after pointing out that we had a Blue Badge and that I had disabled guests with me and also that the we had parked many times oin the main area without problems but Mr Jobsworth wasn't listening....I remembered then that we had experienced his attitude on previous visits.
He grudgingly said that I could drive in and drop my group off but then would need to go out to the other car park and walk back. I think not....so we drove in to find loads of empty Blue Badge spaces and the very next vehicle he let in after us was a VW Transporter, no Blue Badge.! He had told us bare faced lies which I wasn't prepared to tolerate. We parked up without difficulty and without taking up more than one space and went in where I asked to speak to the Duty Manager, Rachel. She came promptly, was very apologetic and helpful and said she would speak with the individual.
The rest of our visit went very well and we participated in the HMS Sheffield memorial event, the 4th May being the anniversary of her being attacked and I met some of the injured that I had cared for on the Hospital Ship Uganda.
Unfortunately, the individual at the entrance spoilt the day and the episode left a nasty taste in the mouth.
Hopefully we won't encounter him on 14th JUne, the anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands.

Had our very first visit to the Arboretum yesterday and had to write a review. What an amazing place, was so nice to pay our respects to all the honoured services, the grounds and memorials are so well thought out and done so well, the grounds are so nice to walk round, the staff do a fantastic job and the 1940's celebration and songs made it an even special visit, this should be a place that everyone should go and a fantastic way to save our history and the memories of all that have passed away serving our country.
Well done to all involved.. ☆☆☆☆☆

I have visited this lovely site on numerous occasions and always found it to be very moving expression. Last week I took our Australian visitor along to the Anzac Day Service and Laying of the Wreath which both of of enjoyed very much. What I did not enjoy as much was whilst walking around the Arboretum afterwards was coming across two deposits left behind from dogs, surely the owners should be made to clean up after their dogs. Sadly I spoke to one of the lovely volunteers who said this is happening all to often, I believe that now the Arboretum are encouraging dog walkers to visit this lovely site, if this is the case more needs to done to make sure the owners clean up after the dogs, it's not the dogs fault

Beautiful gardens filled with trees and numerous stunning memorials to well known and lesser known organisations and people. Heavy rain the day we visited so took the land train trip which is about 45 mins with a recorded commentary which allowed you to see a large area and was a good introduction to the place. Walked around the main central monument which is spectacular and the blank area of wall obviously left for future inscriptions to those killed in action seemed especially poignant. The Visitors centre is lovely and there is a facility to search the records if you want to find a memorial to a group or individual person. Restaurant good too. Will definately return on a drier day to explore more on foot.

My wife and I had been keen to visit the Arboretum for many years, having a mutual interest in military history and war graves. We stayed overnight nearby, so spent two days walking around the Arboretum over the Easter weekend.

We first took the road train around the site, which was very interesting and gave an overview of many of the memorials, as well as allowing us to get our bearings for the site and what was approximately where.

We had a very good look around many of the memorials, but even with the guide book, it was still hard to identify exactly where some of the memorials were, as some are located well off any metalled path and require you to walk across grass / mud or through trees to get to them. This struck us as a bit nonsensical, as if we, as able bodied people struggled to get to some of them, how would elderly or disabled veterans manage to get to them?

The second day we went straight to the main memorial and spent some time there, before walking around the south part of the site near the shot at dawn memorial and 'The Beat'. Once again we struggled to locate some memorials we wished to see and several, when found, were located across boggy grass which was hard going.

It was also noticeable the number of children who were at the site, and families who clearly were local and used the place to walk their dogs, or just for an afternoon out, as it is free to enter. While I am all for educating children about remembrance, it was sad to see that quite a number of parents were allowing their children to run about, jumping on the memorials, shout and scream etc, without telling them to stop. In my view, this should not be allowed and as the site is full of national war memorials, there should be a greater degree of reverence and larger notices at the entrance and around the site, asking visitors to control their kids and animals while visiting the site.

Ultimately, the place is in a pretty nondescript and miserable part of the Midlands, so I suppose they have to attract as many visitors as possible to keep things going. The large restaurant and conference facilities also demonstrate that.

Overall we enjoyed our time at the Arboretum and would return. Some improvements and development of the existing metalled path network would certainly benefit the place, to allow those with limited mobility to get closer to many of the memorials.

Many thanks for sharing your feedback following your visit over Easter, we’re pleased to hear that you were able to take the opportunity to spend so much time exploring our grounds. However, we’re sorry to hear that your visit may have been affected by other visitors to site, we always want to ensure that our site can be enjoyed by everyone who visits. Our site has grown organically since we first opened to the public over 20 years ago, and we now have more than 400 memorials within our grounds. As a free to enter site, and a registered charity, it is not possible for us to build and maintain pathways to all memorials. However, as our site develops, funds allow, and with the ecology of our site in mind, we will continue to invest in a network of arterial pathways that run through our grounds. It’s important that our visitors can visit the memorials they wish, and our team are always happy to facilitate a visit to any memorial, tree, or other individual dedication if access is a concern. Just as important to us is inclusion, in all its forms. Our founders sited us deliberately in Staffordshire to ensure that our site can be accessed easily by everyone in our Nation, and we are proud of our home. It’s also essential that we can pass on the baton of Remembrance to our future generations, and we aim to do this by sharing content that is engaging for visitors of all ages. Thank you once again for taking the time to review your visit. We do hope that you’ll be able to visit us again in the future.
