It was excellent because we got a chance to watch the assembly line. That is not guaranteed but we were lucky. I do not think it would have been worth it if we had not lucked into seeing the assembly line in motion. The logistics are reminiscent of Disney. The first two stops are theaters and the movies are a bit rah rah Ford, but still interesting.

My husband and I spend about 1.5 hours walking the 1.3 mile route around (above) the factory floor. He worked with automation controls and I worked in human resources - thrilling to see the activity from both our perspectives.
You can spend as much or little time as you want. The walk is above the factory floor and goes around in a loop. I believe it is wheelchair accessible (if there is an elevator around) and mostly flat with a couple ramps. It is safe, not actually in midst of the factory floor.

Ford knows how to do a tour. All of it moved at your pace. We got to see the moving line, which is not always a given. Well worth it. We met up with some informative volunteers(?)

Recently we took the factory tour and it was amazing and memorable. What was more memorable were the staff. In fact I dropped my wallet during the tour and after we finished and travelled few miles away did I realise the missing wallet. We turned back and met the supervisor and she swung into action contacting the other staff. Within 15mins, they could trace it back and handed over the same. I am so grateful to the entire honest staff and the supervisor who coordinated in locating it. God Bless them all.

Have you ever wondered how a truck was assemble? The Ford Rouge Factory tour is for you. Initially you are given a brief history of Henry Ford's life and then you are taken to an 21st century immersion theater where the sights and sounds provide you with a quick look at the steps in F150 production. After a brief look at the plant from an observation tower, you are free to take a self-guided tour of the plant. You are above the action with a great view of the stage of production. Personally I was overwhelmed by the intricacies of the project, by the precision of the workers, and the over-all management of the thousands of steps. It is truly a Ford marvel!

I truly enjoyed the parts of the tour that provided an overview of the plant’s history and construction. The assembly area part of the tour is OK for non-technical people. But as an engineer I would have liked to see more. Like drive train assembly and mating with the cab and bed and definitely the assembly process for the Lightning. Ford has a history of sharing industrial best practices, maybe a tour option for technical people guided by a former manufacturing engineer.

This tour was amazing, the two video presentations were amazing and informative. The second one was especially captivating for all ages, it had almost a “Disney” like feel that would captivate anyone. The factory tour was impressive and amazing to watch. A must do!

This was an interesting and informative tour. If you enjoy seeing the details of how the F150 is built, you will love it. Hopefully in the future, they will provide tours on their EV truck or SUV production. Overall, recommend it.

Wonderful tour. The intro film about the history of Ford is well done. The presentation about how the Ford F-150 truck is built was very interesting. The guides were all friendly and explained everything. The tour of the factory floor from the catwalk was great! Never really a pickup person, but I want one now! Highly recommend doing this tour!

Probably the single most impressive tour I’ve EVER been on. I was mesmerized. Even the intro videos are outstanding. It seems like the workers take a lunch break at noon (not sure for how long) so that might not be an ideal time to arrive. Part of the fun is seeing them work and the assembly lines moving. Whatever else you do in Detroit, don’t skip this.

If I bought tickets for the Sunday tour at 3pm, do I need to be on the bus at 3pm or do I need to be at the bus at 2:15 to get to the factory at 3pm? How long should we give ourselves to park and get our family to the bus? Also how long is the tour? We are operating on a tight schedule but we would really like to do the tour on a Saturday afternoon following our family get together.

Hello! We recommend arriving at the loading area 5-10 minutes before the scheduled departure. All Factory Tour buses depart from the circle drive in front of Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation at the time stated on your admission ticket. We recommend a minimum of 90 minutes to visit the Factory Tour. We also recommend accounting for the time it takes to travel to and from the tour when planning your visit. How long is the tour? We are planning on doing the Henry Ford one day, Greenfield Village the second day (or vice versa depending on weather) then we thought we'd do the Factory tour after that- the morning we checkout of the hotel to leave. Is that crazy? Would you do it one of the other mornings?

If you are only going to do the factory tour on the day you leave, that would work beautifully and the kids will be amazed. Taking a specific day for each of the other tours should give you the time and not feel rushed. Putting two tours together will make you feel rushed and not as enjoyable. Have a great time.

The 11 year old, yes. The 5 year old, no. Take it from a retired teacher, the 5 year old is too young for this tour.

Should we plan an entire day at Greenfield Village and then plan to visit the Museum and Factory Tour in the same day? Any other input would be appreciated.

We recommend that the Museum + Factory Tour are done in one day, and Greenfield Village in another. This schedule would allow you to take advantage of each of our three venues. Seeing all three qualifies you for a Main Attractions combination ticket, which retails for $50 per adult. Enjoy!
