The best rebuilt ghost town in the country. Plus beautiful setting surrounded by Lake Michiga. And, no cost. A must see

Very interesting place. We loved the music hall! We also enjoyed the miniature model of the town and how it worked. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. Beautiful views from the trails, as well!

Perfection for me is: History, water, shoreline, rocks, woods, trails, old buildings, a harbor and a good story. Fayette has it all.
Be prepared to walk up some and down slopes, so wear hiking or walking shoes. Pack a picnic lunch. And a camera!
Fayette is fascinating and my husband and I are keen to learn more. There are very few books out there, but we found two.
By the way, there is a wonderful diorama in the visitor's center, and a very nice gift shop. Park staff are friendly and helpful.

It was great to experience the grounds at your own space. This historical townsite is being well preserved. Beautiful setting. We walked the trails through the woods and the views were great.

Our family toured the Fayette site yesterday. It is one of the best historical sites I have ever been to. Well worth the drive to see it! Self guided tours and great pictures and signage explaining the operation of the town in its heyday. A truly wonderful experience.

Our family really enjoyed exploring Historical Village Fayette Park. This 1860s historical town on the water was very cool. There are some preserved buildings and some reconstructions. Some of the buildings could be entered and signs were posted reminding visitors to wear masks, socially distance, and follow the enter/exit signs in the buildings. The lakeshore trails surrounding the buildings are beautiful. We are glad we made this stop. We had a Michigan State Parks day pass already from earlier in the day ($9 non-resident)., which we needed to enter. There are bathroom facilities. It is a bit of a walk to cover the whole area and there is an incline near the visitor’s center. I’d recommend a stroller for babies/toddlers.

We drove down the peninsula to the Fayette historical village recently and really enjoyed ourselves. Make sure to stop in the visitors center to check out the model of what the village looked like at its peak, and listen to the brief history of the village. Then, walk down the hill and check out what remains. There are about a dozen buildings. There was only 1 recreation (a worker's cabin), and the rest of the buildings are original. Some are in great condition, and others are almost in ruins, but everything was very interesting. There are plenty of signs to explain what life was like in the village, many of the buildings have artifacts or recreations inside, and there's even a building with toys for little kids.
When you're done exploring the village, you can sit on the bench overlooking the water or climb up the hill to the scenic overlooks and trails around the village.

I hadn't been to the historical village in about 20 years, since our children went there on a school field trip. I enjoyed it more today as I didn't have to keep an eye on a group of children!! It's very interesting and educational- I love the old houses and furnishings.

The Historical village was very interesting. Our tour guide gave a brief history of the buildings and then left us to explore on our own. Very enjoyable place.
My sons and I enjoyed everything about the village and campgrounds.

We decided on a last minute get away & drove two hours to fayette state park. We camped at the state park and found this gem was parking lot before camping areas. You take stairs to gift shop and turn right. Follow path to this charming gem. The gift shop does have wonderful ice cream too. Dogs are welcome (with responsiable owners & a leash). It was free to access this historic gem. There are wonderful plaques giving you the history of the buildings. The views of the water also cannot be beat.
