My husband and I had the chance to golf the Masterpiece yesterday and what an experience it was. From the person who made our tee time to the kid who cleaned our clubs and unloaded our cart after the round, this was a great experience. The staff in the clubhouse were friendly and knowledgeable. The rangers and beverage cart personnel were great to interact with. We are pretty avid golfers and try to play many different courses each summer. This was one of the more challenging and fun courses we've played. The course itself was in great shape and the hills/valleys require some strategy to have an easy next shot. We would recommend the course to anyone who wants to have a great day on a challenging course.

Were it not for business I would never come here. Their fire pits are way too close to the rooms so that one is kept awake by the noise even to after 2:30 AM. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND INCONSIDERATE of guests who do not want to stay awake all night. Move them away from guest rooms where they won’t disturb others!!!

Many people believe that Treetops Golf Resort in Gaylord put Northern Michigan on the map as a great golf destination. Although there are several golf resorts in the area with multiple courses, Treetops emerges each year as one of the most recognizable golf resorts in the state. With 81 holes of spectacular golf at two locations, 226 guest rooms and suites, a spa, a salon, and more than 25,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, it’s easy to see why Treetops Resort is a popular venue for golf getaways, weddings, and business conferences.
For my money, there are two other qualities necessary for a golf resort to earn consideration (besides exciting golf): good dining and comfortable accommodations. On either point, Treetops does not disappoint. Treetops offers three restaurants on the main property that are all located within steps of each other: Legends on the Hill, Hunter's Grille, and the Sports Bar.
As far as the rooms in the lodge go, the rooms are some of the largest I’ve stayed in. Each room is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker as well as a large flat-screen TV, and bathrooms with huge walk-in showers. In the lodge, you’ll find an indoor pool, hot tubs, and a fitness center as well as the Treetops Spa.
The newest addition to the Treetops lodging collection is the Jones Cottages, located on the 4th hole of the Masterpiece. Each cottage sleeps eight people comfortably, making them perfect for small groups and outings. All are outfitted with modern amenities and the two-floor layout provides added space and unbeatable views.
The Jones Masterpiece Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and is the only course on the main property. Many feel that The Masterpiece is the one course that put Gaylord on the map as a golf destination.
The Premier Course at Treetops Resort is the only Tom Fazio-designed golf course in Michigan and is as challenging as it is forgiving.
Recently, Treetops unveiled the “new and improved” Tradition Golf Course which will appeal to golf enthusiasts who want to experience the game as it was intended to be played – a good walk spoiled by a little white ball!
Threetops is the most challenging par 3 course in North America. AARP named Threetops the #1 Par 3 Course in North America. It was also the site of the former ESPN Par 3 Shootout which challenged the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Lee Trevino, and Raymond Floyd. The 7th hole is where, in 2001, Lee Trevino hit his tee shot over the green but managed to spin it back into the hole. The ace earned him $10,000 for the closest to the pin, $80,000 for the skin, and $1,000,000 for the hole-in-one.
From the back tees, yardages range between 140 and 219 yards. The longer holes may look intimidating on the scorecard, but they usually play significantly downhill. Each hole is unique, and the course conditions are the same as any of the championship 18-hole courses. The greens are the most challenging aspect of the course; some have severe slopes with a lot of undulation and break that you may not see at first glance and “straight-in” putts are rare. Threetops is a must-play if you’re on a golf trip to Gaylord; you can get around the course in about 90 minutes.
Treetops Resort is located about 5 miles east of Gaylord and only 10 minutes from I-75. With great golf, fantastic dining, and spacious, comfortable rooms, you won’t go wrong in choosing Treetops as your next golf getaway destination.

Visited here this past Saturday for the very first time. We went snowshoeing on the property which was absolutely stunning. It was a beautiful day and the best experience. I wanted to give a special Thank you to Ed at the jones activity center for his advice, friendliness and enthusiasm. It truly made our experience spectacular. Myself and my boyfriend truly enjoyed our day at Treetop and we will be back again. Thanks again Ed!

Watch out!! Hotel room and golf reservation policies are very unreasonable, and the reservation team is completely inflexible. I booked a group of 8 golfers for mid October. Unfortunately, it snowed that week making golf impossible. I was able to cancel tee times, but the Treetops Reservation Manager was unwilling to refund my hotel deposit even though I cancelled several days prior. No reason not to refund my deposit when I was probably the only person with a hotel reservation that week and there was snow on the ground. I must have called 5 times trying to get a refund and the Reservation Manager never called me back. They eventually referred me to someone in accounting who was supposed to issue a refund but she never did.
I won't ever bring my group back to Treetops. Just terrible customer service.

Stay away from the Rick Smith par 3 course unless you really are begging to be frustrated, or worse, I just got back from there today and was badly injured on hole #3. The cart would not stop coming down the cart path that drops 145 ft on a 207 yard hole from the white tees. Only the left rear brake worked. There was a stopped cart half way down and stopped at the red tees. I rode the brakes the hole way down and could not stop. To prevent hitting the stopped cart, I had to take a left over the curb and head uphill. The cart went sideways, I yelled to my wife to jump out as the cart went back down to the cart path sideways. .The cart tipped over on the cart path with me trapped under it. I lost a 2" square patch of skin on my knee, and both elbows on the cart path.and continued to slide down the hill with the cart on top of me. My sock was blood soaked from the bleeding on my knee. The course had so much dew on it that putts were creating rooster tails of water, and cart paths could not have been slicker if they were frozen. Play any other course at the resort, but STAY AWAY from the Par 3, 9 holes course.

I was really disappointed in several things. The accommodations were awful. Our view was a wall by the pool. There were stains all over the ceiling from leaks in the bath area. We asked to be moved but were told that housekeeping only cleans enough rooms for the days reservations. There was no hairdryer, Kleenex etc. To top it off, masks were not worn by employees at the restaurant and the manager said it wasn’t her responsibility. My best advice is go elsewhere.

Been bringing our golf group up here for the past 5 years, and they really dropped the ball this year, covid or not. Screwed up our tee times, overbooked groups, hotel was in terrible shape, under staffed everywhere, from Hotel check in, which took way too long, and they screwed that up too. Looking to go elsewhere next year.

I attended a one day golf school ($250 ea) with a group of 13 women ( 9 am to 2 pm). There were 4 friendly instructors and in theory that could of worked, but the school was disorganized and exhausting on a hot, sunny day. Some women received a great amount of individualized instruction while others received none. We were misinformed about location of the clinic, so we showed up at 9:00 a.m. per instructions, but after great confusion had to travel to a different course and lost 30 minutes of instruction. A few of the instructors disagreed with each other about techniques. Afterwards at 2:00pm we had to wait in line 30 minutes to obtain lunch. Playing 9 holes on two days ( without instructors) was the best part, including the wonderful Threetops. We each received brief before and after recordings of our swings following the lesson; that was it for instructional technology. I did enjoy the 9 putting challenges we rotated through.
