It’s a very nice area but you need to find the elks in there which can be tricky. Try to walk on the pavement near the parking which goes parallel to the road and see if you can see them at the end.

We were hoping to see Elk driving around Alpena/Gaylord but since we didn't, this was a great option! There were several Elk, some with a huge rack.

Great spot to view these beautiful animals! Easy to find and photograph! We went later in the day and the elk were gathered around their feeding area. Not fancy but sure worth a stop!

Underwhelming is the best we can offer. We went twice and managed to see on female elk for a brief moment. Maybe we were just unlucky but reviewing it honestly for our personal experience.

This was a great unique experience and opportunity to see these magnificent animals in an open natural environment. A herd of around 30 elk (and a very small number of two other deer species) can be seen. The enclosure is large, so the elk are not all seen together, but worth every moment, especially when one or two wander up close to the fence. They are very big animals. Easy to park, not many places to sit down and rest, but it is free to the public!

Caught the elk at sunset on a Thursday up on a leaf peeper trip. The elk were bugling and males locking horns and fighting, so cool!
Then we took a ride east on Sturgeon river road east of Vanderbilt to try to find wild elk to no avail.
Great feature of Gaylord, this free elk park.!

We stopped by one morning and were pleasantly surprised to see a large, fenced off park area with 10 to 15 elk in plain view. There were 2 males, one much larger than the other. The large male started bugging and ran the smaller male off. They obviously are used to seeing humans because they were pretty close to the fence, but it was still a treat to see them up close.

Easy to find and a great way to see these creatures. We happen to see them at feeding time in the late afternoon so they were all very near to the parking lot.

This is a city park where you pull into the parking lot and view the elk. The first time we seen them they were all in the shade right by the fence. The second time, they were taking turns eating.
