This place gives an accurate account of the Gaylord's history. Only the most dedicated history students need bother with it though - not for the casually curious and definitely not for families

Little museums like this are a mainstay of our travel haunts. The staff of two here were very friendly, answered all of our questions, and the exhibits, although modest, were interesting, well done, and appealed to all ages. A fine little museum that Gaylord can be proud of.

I found the museum while I was killing time while my husband golfed. I enjoyed the exhibits and learning about the history of the area.
There was nothing spectacular here, but it was informative and interesting. The volunteer who was there basically gave me an hour-long guided tour and knew all kinds of things that weren't on the display cards. Her narrative may have been the best part.
I learned what a shoe "last" is and that Claude Shannon invented the binary code.
I love learning and history, and this was a combination of Roadside America and the History Channel.
It was well worth my time.

If you are looking for a major history museum ...this is not it. But if you would like to stroll in and check out what they have displayed, it is highly interesting. I am proud of this community for having a place where people can reflect on the past.

We happened into the Historical Museum this summer and was delighted to find a good visual representation of Gaylord over many decades. The displays included a schoolroom, the popular Chatterbox Cafe and a home of the period, among other things, along with artifacts from area places, many wonderfully displayed graphics and individual items. We were very pleased. Admission by donation.

If history is your thing, or you enjoy learning more about the community or area when you travel, the museum is a really good, home grown museum. A favorite "date night," is to stop at the Alpine Chocolate Hauss and get a cone on Wednesday night, then meander around downtown, and visit the museum if it is open until you hear a band. Right away, go to the Pavilion next to the Courthouse and listen to our community band play great music.

We were on a walking tour of Gaylord and the open door of this museum beckoned us to enter. The museum, though small, has a great history of the area and it's people. There were two helpful docents to answer any questions and best of all, it's free.

We stopped for lunch next door at Arlene's (recommended) and went into the museum afterward. We were greeted pleasantly and invited to look around. There are a lot of items in two rooms. The museum is located in what was once a cigar factory and there's an exhibit about that. There are displays about the logging industry in the area and how railroads grew to support that. There's a very nice exhibit highlighting early schools in the county. You can learn about farming and agriculture. There's one wall showing barns in the county. The back room has an old-style kitchen displaying many antique kitchen implements. There's also a gift area, selling local products. This is a very nice local museum and it's clear the people running it take great pride in their part of the country. Oh, and it's free!
