I had some free time on the weekend so I researched the area and found Elk Park, so I went there half-believing it and half-trusting it.
And sure enough, there was a herd of elk in front of the viewing area.
I was amazed to see elk for the first time.
It was cold so I couldn't stay outside for long.

Went here hoping to see the elk up close. We took the one track trail which we got to see one close. Highly recommend using this trail if you want to see an elk

Gaylord is so very lucky to have this treasure in their back yard!! The paths are so beautiful and well marked. They are a doable distance, the steep grade is clearly marked. Even better, the paths are lit for nighttime walking! We snowshoed the paths then went back to walk at night. What a great experience.

Probably the only place in Michigan, or anywhere for that matter, where you can view a herd (not a few, but a herd!) of elk in a natural setting! Pretty incredible. Kudos to the City of Gaylord for making this possible!

I wanted to follow the main trail and then wander to the things that caught my eye. Then to find my way back to the entrance i followed the maps that are here and ther on the main road trail.

Great park with several groomed, paved hiking trails. You can walk and see the elk in the neighboring Elk pen. We're going back when we have more time so we can walk down some of the other paths.

This park is a real gem.
Tennis courts, paved & natural pathways and an elk herd to view thrown in the mix; the citizens of Gaylord, and its visitors are fortunate to have this resource in their midst.
This was a wonderful place to visit on a cool and crisp autumn Sunday afternoon.

We spent the night in Gaylord and were looking for a nice walk to stretch our legs and relax. The trails in Aspen Park were paved, wide and were just what we needed after a long day in the car. They were clean and well-marked.

A beautiful walk while the sun was setting. One of the trails leads to a lake. Another to the elk pen park. It's quite and not a place for kids. Great for a date night or date trip out.
