Beautiful Views

Upon arrival there were a couple of guys to help you parking and tell you which way to start on the trail. It was a beautiful walk and of course the lake view was gorgeous.

A nice hike
2020年9月 • 夫妻情侣
A very well maintained set of pathways through the forest to the edge of Lake Michigan. The trail we took was mostly through balsam/ cedar wetland forest. A nice little pond is found part way to the beach overlook. The trail follows a ridge overlooking the shoreline. One must stay on the path. A well constructed wooden walkway takes you to an overlook of Lake Michigan . It was a very pleasant visit.

Beautiful short walk on mostly boardwalk and some wood chips. A few different walking paths that all lead out to Lake Michigan. Benches along the way to sit and listen to nature along with some informational signs along the way.

Beautiful

My wife and I enjoyed a morning walk around the preserve. It’s a gem, the manager is friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and he was very helpful with all the guests I saw him interact with during our visit. The water is gorgeous, and the vegetation is so diverse, you couldn’t see everything unless you take the time to look at everything.

Tranquil Walk to the Beach
2020年8月
We enjoyed walking the short trail from the entrance to the beach, with a stop at the pond, where we saw an oriole, other birds and frogs. The water level is so high, there isn't a lot of depth to the beach, but it is one of the few around Harbor Springs, so it's worth checking out. The trails are very well maintained; I recommend a stop when you are in the area.

Gorgeous walk, beautiful stretch of beach and great stewardship. Perfect place to skip stones, write in the sand, build stone zen sculptures, have a picnic, soak in nature. We all loved it!

Nature trail

Visited Thorn Swift Nature Preserve with family today including 3 year old grandson. This is a quaint very short nature trail right on Lake Michigan. Great informational signage, well constructed boardwalks and natural trail. This is a very easy walk for kids and elders. Might not be the best for handicapped but you could do it if not needing a chair or other immobility devices. It’s a small area so if it’s busy you will have to be patient to get around it. We had a good time.

Special Place to Visit
2019年7月 • 家庭
This is a diverse ecological system that encompasses a boardwalk over wet marshy areas, a wooded dune trail, and a section of pristine Lake Michigan beach. Each area is a little different. There is also a nature center staffed by an on site caretaker who manages the property year round. He feeds several species of local wildlife including turkeys, birds, and a couple almost tame raccoons by keeping a food box that the critters visit when they feel like a snack. It was pretty funny to see a "blond" raccoon named Blondy eating an actual white bread sandwich, next to a flock of foraging turkeys! The beach area is great for photography and has a bench to relax on and have snack. Lots of beautiful stones tucked into the beach sand. The east loop trail has many very old trees identified with information plaques and contains the oldest birch tree I have ever seen. The wetlands loop contains lots of very large Angelica plants that have amazing Dr. Suess like bloom pods. And on certain days, depending on the late summer weather, thousands of monarchs assemble and wait for the perfect conditions to migrate south over Lake Michigan. Talk to the caretaker about when to catch this astounding sight and bring your camera! A local wolf was also spotted near the road here in early January, likely hunting for a straggler in the large population of deer that winter in this cedar swamp and the meandering spring feed streams. This is a quiet, serene, place to explore, with some parking available, and bike racks for those who are cycling along the beautiful Lower Shore Drive area. Well worth a visit!
