The tour guide was very knowledgeable. I have seen 14 capitols. This was one of the better tours. We got to peek in the Governor’s office, saw the House and Senate from the balcony and the old Supreme Court. One negative was that the liberty bell replica is not viewable to the public. It is in Constitution Hall. However, the security guard was able to call someone to get us an escort to see the bell.

Beautiful building and historically accurate. Tour starts out in Heritage Hall, on the north side, with a short, very well done video that gives a nice overview. Our tour guide, Jacob, was excellent and very knowledgeable. He allowed time for those who needed to use the elevator and obviously enjoys what he does. This is our 50th state capitol and, I have to say, one of the better ones!

Not much to see, not much to do. May have been because we were there over a holiday, but we just sort of wandered around, saw the history timeline hallway, and took some pictures outside.

Recently had occasion to plan a daytrip for family visiting from out West. The Michigan State Capitol, in tandem with other nearby sites, was a perfect site to take in! After going through security, we began to walk through the building, floor by floor, wing by wing. The Rotunda was not open as it is undergoing a yearlong refresh, although we could see some of the Governor portraits. Still there is plenty of other sites throughout the building to enjoy. Designed by Elijah Myers, built in the 1870s, the building features the work of some of the best artisans of the day. The iron staircases. Beautiful hardwood. Stunning ceilings and walls. Light fixtures and door handles and even door hinges feature the state capitol and other state symbols. We stopped in the State Senate chambers and talked with the Sergeant at Arms. We watched the State House in chambers. We were to peek into the Governor's Office. Free admission. Plenty of metered parking on the streets. Definitely worth a return visit!!

I enjoy visiting State Capitols. As a road-tripper they often offer free parking and - on a practical note - free Wi-Fi, shelter from the weather and restrooms!! Not to mention the stunning decor. We did a self tour and managed to see the Senate and House as well as the great interior decor of the building. Very impressive and worth a visit.

Was in the area so I stopped in for a quick visit. Went early in the morning and found lots of parking. The woodworking throughout was very interesting, especially the chandeliers. Unfortunately the rotunda was under construction when I was there. Lots of history inside and worth a visit.

It's a beautiful building and the tours are great - the guides are knowledgeable and good presenters. It's fun to tag along with school groups - the kids are always in awe and enthusiastic.

Stopped at the state capital building while traveling through the Lansing area. Lawmakers were not in session so not much going on however it was nice to look around with the capitol building quiet. Rotunda is under construction but was able able to walk around inside and see the past governors portraits. Gentlemen at the visitors desk was very friendly and helpful.

Did a self tour and it was very interesting! Everyone associated with the building was very nice and it felt very secure at the same time. Quite a wonderful spot.

The tour is free. Out tour guide was knowledgeable and diligent in sharing the information he knew. We had a choice to join a school/day camp class or wait for another time and chose to go with the group and it was fun and interesting to hear the questions for the younger children.
