Fabulous Ski Area

I visited here for the first time and my daughter and I skied. Wow, what a great ski area. Lots of parking, checking, was easy to get the lift ticket. The skiing was fabulous with many varied runs and many steep runs. This is now my new favorite Minnesota ski area. Employees were friendly and helpful. The lift ticket prices were very reasonable just an overall great experience. The main chair was a high-speed quad and that kept the lines down. My one suggestion was it would be nice if they had a parking shuttle from the overflow parking to the chalet because it’s quite a long walk. I only came for a day trip, but I am definitely gonna come back for a weekend trip next winter.

Wonderful staff and slopes

Great family weekend! The ski hills were perfect midweek for our family. My snowboard lost a piece and the repair shop was more than accommodating with letting me use a board and even going to get pieces for it at the hardware store. The ticketing counter was also very accommodating with letting us use free passes by getting started early with registration prior to opening. You can tell the employees care and management is doing a great job. First time for our family but won’t be the last! Love the high speed quad!

Great long weekend!

We had a great experience as a family. Perfect hill for kids who have been skiing on city slopes and looking for something bigger. I took a ski lesson and the instructor Dave was knowledgeable, patient, and so helpful! 100% worth the money. Definitely reserve equipment and lift tickets and complete waivers ahead of time! The line is serious. The villas were clean and comfortable although a bit farther than walking distance with the gear and weather. Parking at the hill was never a problem. Grocery store is close in case you forget something but the restaurant was really good. We will definitely come again!

GIANTS RIDGE is by far one of the TOP Ski destinations MINNESOTA has to offer!
The 30+ VARYING slopes along with STELLAR trails through the woods will keep Adults and even the littlest Humans ENTERTAINED ALL DAY!
Highly recommend! We really LOVED the Speedy cushioned CHAIRLIFTS that slow down as you get on and off!
It’s GOING to be a YEARLY TRADITION for me and my 2 teen daughters from 2022 onward!

A pleasant surprise for skiing

I was skeptical... this place had all the red flags of a place that's completely overrated. Hyperbole in their advertising, exaggerating their vertical, more focus on selling the resort than the actual skiing. But no, this is a quality, well run ski area.

But let me put the brakes on just a little: anyone that calls this the best downhill skiing in Minnesota hasn't skied Lutsen. And that's fine... it's OK for this place to be Giant's Ridge and for Lutsen to be Lutsen. The lift tickets at Giant's Ridge were well less than half of what Lutsen was charging for the day we went, and for early season skiing it was not worth paying Lutsen prices for Lutsen. That's what led us to Giant's Ridge, and it left us with no regrets.

So they advertise 500' vertical, which is a significant exaggeration... it would mean that the top of their hill would be the highest peak in St, Louis county, which it isn't. Liftblog.com confirms that 427' is the highest vertical of any of their lifts. Still, that's enough to put them well above the median for Minnesota ski areas. And I would say that due to the topography, their 427' vertical feels like more than Granite Peak's 610' vertical (yes, they exaggerate, too). The terrain is way more usable... Granite Peak is 300' that's too steep for some people followed by 300' that's too dull for the rest of us. Giant's Ridge has a much more usable topography for a ski hill. A lot of it wasn't open, but I found myself looking around thinking, "I'd like to come back and ski that when it's open... and that... and that..."

Oh, as for ratings, GR's ratings are a lot closer to Lutsen's ratings than Granite Peak's or the Michigan areas I know, where... GR has slopes that I consider much more legitimate black diamond.

I'll definitely be back.

The construction and trail building at Giants Ridge puts Vail, CO to shame.

The MTB trails were constructed by people who are clearly knowledgeable dedicated to the sport of Mountain biking and downhill biking. The names of the green and blue trails may not do proper justice to their intensity and pure “awesomeness”.

Unreal Downhill MTB!

Welch V? CLOSED. Spirit Mountain? CLOSED. Week in Whistler? Closed to all the Covid Americans! What to do with that 180mm big-hitter? Tool around the XC trails? Don’t do it! Load your gravity toys and go NOW to Giants Ridge and prepare for great downhill for any skill level + fast ascents on the high-speed lift and good vibes from the cool GR gate agents. They just completed Granite Gorge XX and Ribbits 1,2 & 3, which are not yet mapped but fun AF! Open Fri, Sat Sun but call to confirm. You should also bring your road bike and ride the just-completed Mesabi trail headed NE and turn around when it turns to gravel - 1hour10 RT and super scenic. We stayed at The Villas and you can ride to the condo and leave your car parked. Rental DH bikes if needed but book in advance for sure with Jeff. Totally great staycation and the Iron Range is beautiful no doubt!

Best downhill skiing in Minnesota!

My family came up to Giants Ridge for President’s Day weekend and stayed in the Villas. Great skiing and accommodations.

Great Mountain Biking

Did the downhill trials here. Great fun and professionally developed. They have the new kids trail off the back which we tried so we could bring the 9 and 10 year old next time. The trails are lift served with a high speed lift. They rent bikes if you need one. And, the price is very reasonable. The Burnt Onion has a great lunch. All the people that work here go out of their way to help you. Super casual place with zero intimidation factor.

Also skied here and it has some great steep runs for Minnesota.

Very nice place to stay, fall colours starting to show. The Lodge was very quiet as it was the off season.
