I met a friend here to paint in the outdoors today and was SHOCKED by a $7 parking fee. At an ordinary park? On a river full of free parks. In a city and a state full of free parks? I could see a buck or two, but $7!?
I would've left except my friend was already waiting within so I begrudgingly paid the extortionate price to enter.
Inside it is a nice park. No better than the many other nice free parks we have in and around the metro, but nice enough.

This spacious park in the Twin Cities’ north metro is a year-round destination, perfect for pick-nicking, biking and wandering during warm weather and snowshoeing in the colder months. The park, located on the east side of the Mississippi River in Anoka County, is across from the Mississippi Gateway Regional Park in Hennepin County on the west side of the river. The parks are connected by a walkway across the Coon Rapids Dam. A day use fee is collected at the entrance, where you can also purchase an annual pass.
I visited on a weekday afternoon and was able to enjoy lots of solitude walking the various paved trails and unpaved paths. But the park’s size likely enables visitors to escape crowds even on the busiest days. Benches, picnic tables and covered shelters are generously spaced apart throughout the grounds, so you won’t feel cramped for a family outing. Playground equipment is also available for younger children. I’m not a fisherman, but there were many people fishing on the downriver side of the dam so the fishing must be decent.
And a tip for a hot day…stand on the downriver side of the dam spillway and let the mist blowing up from the spillway help you feel a lot cooler.

Walk my dog every day at the park, 11am, saw 3 coyotes walking in the park ,has anyone else seen them in the daytime?

in comparison with Hennepin County parks. Not the best maintained park evident by overflowing trash cans and port a potty near the rim. Other than the trail and the river not much else. Anoka County needs to put $ into the park.

Our scout troop puts on a food concession here several times during the summer to earn money for the troop. The staff and volunteers here are well organized and managed.
The free concerts attract a pretty decent crowd and they do a great job helping those who are mobility challenged to get priority parking and redirecting others as needed. One group provides golf cart shuttles as well.
Shelters, bathrooms, grounds etc well maintained. Feels safe and is patrolled.

My favorite park in the north metro, Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park has trails on the east side of the Mississippi River, north and south of the Coon Rapids Dam. My favorite trail is north of the Visitor Center (and the parking areas). The section along the river is asphalt, and the section through the forest is limestone-covered. My usual trip is up one side and down the other. Both the river trail and the forest trail are kept up year-around. The wildlife and plants are marvelous. A real attempt is made to keep this trail as natural as possible. The short loop is about 2 miles, and the longer one is about 3 miles. I visit in every season of the year!

Visit occasional , very beautiful there, hiking and walking trail. Music in the park, grills for cooking and fishing. Fun times.

There is so much to offer at the Coon Rapids Dam Reginal Park! The trails offer nature and peace and quiet to all who take part any time of the year. Whether you purchase a parking pass for the day or season, or park on the outer streets and walk in, there is just so much to offer!
