Just great

Took the Buffalo tour and it was well worth the $10 charge. Our guide was just great and learned a lot about the animals of course but also about the habitat and how the echo system worked. Well worth the time and cost.
Would highly recommend.

This is our second time in eight years here in the Blue Mounds State Park. Our first time was back in August 2015, and now it is August 2023. Each time we spent three days in the campsite, and each visit we had about 100 family members in the group. We really liked the beautiful scenery of the site, especially the trail from the campsite to the cliff. The children could see the buffalo Bisons chewing grasses on slopes and field. They were very excited to see them. The cliff was also beautiful. Every quiet night and the fireplace reminded us of our lives in the jungle and forest, while we were escaping and hiding ourselves from the Lao and North Vietnamese communist soldiers during the Secret War in Laos.

Thank you so much for providing us all the convenience while on the campsite. The staff were just wonderful. Again, thank you so much for everything and all the wonderful services. Tou Pao Lor.

Where the Buffalo Roam

The state park is great. too bad the lake is gone now after the damn blew out, but the area is pretty. The quarry is neat and there are free range buffalo there. Check out the rock formations and go rock climbing or biking.

Beautiful campsite. Really well maintained. Best campground shower in the nation! Federal or State. Really, when you are on the road the last thing you want is a not so nice bathroom and shower. 👍 Minnesota!

Good place for a short hike

We wanted to stretch our legs a little on a recent road trip. Nice place to hike for a little, we chose the trails by the cliffs. Seeing the bisons was an added bonus

Peaceful park in Early May 2023

I had never been to this park before, but it was the closest one to Pipestone National Monument which was that main reason for camping here. I booked online for a Cart-In site without knowing much about it. I tent camped for 3 nights May 1-4. Turns out that it was the closest to the cart-in rest rooms, good and bad, but I was the only one camped within the cart-in campground. The main campground had 3or 4 RV/Trailers there and the only place that had showers. They were still locked up, so no washing up for the whole time there. Not even sinks at the pit toilet restroom by me. This park includes a bison range with a herd of them grazing. There are trails that run alongside the full length of it. One can also drive around to Eagle Point at the opposite end of the park and view bison there as well. Nice park, not much for trees, mostly open. One could also rent tepees here, but they were not set up for use either. The best part of camping here in early May? Solitude.

Going on the Prairie and Bison Tour at Blue Mounds State Park

Great trip! We arrived at approximately 8:45 am in preparation for our 9 am Prairie and Bison Tour. We checked in at the park office, received our tickets for the tour, and then made the half mile drive up the road to the meeting location. The tour started on time, and the first five or so minutes were spent going over safety instructions for the ride. After going over the instructions and grabbing a pair of binoculars, we boarded the vehicle and made our way into the prairie. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and made several stops along the way, providing some background information on both the bison and the prairie in front of us. During each stop, the guide was open to answering any questions that we may have. The ride was definitely bumpy, as we were mostly driving on uneven terrain. Towards the end of the tour, we were able to spot the bison several hundred feet away from us. Using the binoculars that were provided, we were able to get a really good glimpse of them. At the end of the tour, we were dropped off at the same spot we were picked up at.

Tip: The tour lasted approximately an hour and forty minutes.

Beautiful Views

Beautiful views from the vista stop. We also stopped at the cliff view location which offered a selfie station. The park is very spread out and you need a permit to park anywhere. They are available at any lot you pull in to and it’s only $7 per day. We were hoping to see some bison and there was a herd located right outside the entrance to the park. How cool! Lots of trails for hiking but it was too hot for use to do that very long. The trails we did see were clearly marked and easily accessible from the parking lots.

Hike at Blue Mounds

We started the Hiking Club with this park on March 17, 2022. It's a beautiful park. The bison were right by the park office. The trail is very open and the views are amazing. Saw pheasant, grouse, and geese.

Cool State Park

Impressive state park. The huge quartz rocks inside the Bur Oak Forest and the huge quartz quarry were awesome sights. I highly welcome the Bur Oak hiking trail; where you can see both sights.
