The indoor museum is quite nice, and the Keith Haring exhibit was quite interesting, but I think the outdoor sculpture garden is the highlight, especially the 'Spoon and Cherry'.

What a great visit! Dined at Cardamom, quite good, outside is best. Then toured the immense sculpture area… quite fascinating. The brochure provided was essentially useless and the self-guided app was needed to appreciate. I vote for a better brochure with explanations and a guided route to take. The current brochure isn’t well done and using the app deteriorates the experience outdoors.

FREE THURSDAY AFTER 5PM
We were vacationing in Minneapolis for a week and visited the Walker on 'Free Thursday after 5pm'. While we enjoyed the Keith Haring exhibit, we didn't realize (and the front desk neglected to inform us) that it was the only exhibit open for viewing that night, which was disappointing. Also, probably due to the fact it was 'free night' there were several kids running around and being noisy.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE...
Besides the art museum, we spent time wandering the adjacent sculpture garden where you can photograph the iconic 'Spoonbridge and Cherry' and see great views of the surrounding city, including the Basilica of Saint Mary, which is only a 10 minute walk away and worth seeing.
ROOFTOP MINI-GOLF
While at the Walker, we played 'Skyline Mini-golf', which is a 10-hole rooftop course, probably one like no other you've ever played! Check-in and pay at the front desk and take the elevator up to the rooftop for play.
CARDAMOM CAFE
In order to kill time before the 5pm free opening (and not a minute before!) we had a hot drink at the museum cafe 'Cardamom', which has a minimalist, high-end vibe.
EXIT THROUGH THE (SMALL) GIFT SHOP
The gift shop is small compared to many other art museums.
LOCKERS
There are lockers available near the bathrooms, ideal if you need to stow a backpack or oversized bag like we did. The staff gave us 25 cents for it and we were able to access it a few times during our visit.
I teetered on giving the Walker a 3 or a 4 due to the fact there was only one exhibit open on free night, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt as probably if we'd paid to go in at another time, it would have been a much fuller experience.

We visited the Twin Cities recently for the first time. Idk why but everyone says go to Walker. Thankfully they are open late Thursdays for free from 5-9pm so we could go. The main exhibit was Keith Haring: Art Is for Everybody. The exhibits and dedicated space were excellent. I did not enjoy the artist's work for the most part, a lot of it was obscene imo. So I have mixed feelings because Walker and Haring are tied together since they worked together so much. The good parts: great views, nice building and space, they gave us quarters for the lockers which were abundant, friendly staff. There are movies and f&b for those who want to make it a date night.

I went with my family to the Walker Art Museum to see the Pacita Abad special exhibit. It was so fantastic! My grown children did not predict that they would find museums interesting, and they LOVED this exhibit, just as I did.
What an exciting, thrilling, imaginative woman Pacita Abad was! I loved her ability to make the viewer see the world in the colorful way she did. She was such a showman too (showing up at her ocean exhibition in scuba gear). My family had fun asking each other to guess which mural in her continent series represented which continent. The Pacita Abad show is at the museum until September 3, 2023.
This was my first-ever visit to the Walker. I found it very accessible by bus as a tourist. The entrance wasn't obvious, nor was the wayfinding in the museum, but maybe that was because it was my first time there. I also thought the gift shop was astonishingly small. That must be temporary. Maybe they are renovating gift shop space.
When an art museum teaches you about an artist new to you, it brings the best-ever sense of discovery. I feel grateful for it years afterwards. Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to the success of this museum - especially the curators!

My visit reaffirmed that I find contemporary art perplexing. The museum is bright and front desk staff are friendly, but I can't recommend visiting unless you love this type of art.
The highlight for me was the outdoor platform that provided a nice view of the Minneapolis skyline, and the sculpture garden, which is free to wander through, is lovely.

Way underrated. It's worth visiting because of its location by the Sculpture Garden. But its got great exhibits - some well known modern artists (Jasper Johns, etc), but also very large special exhibits. I learned about Pacita Abad (see pic), at a wonderful exhibit. Also, a very good restaurant.

I was visiting Minneapolis and I had finally had time to visit this perfect-sized modern art museum. On...and don't miss the sculpture park across the street.
Yes, it has works by Warhol, Lichtenstein, etc, but it has has work done by artists that aren't household names. Modern art isn't everyone's cup of tea, but even if you don't like it, much of the art here can be thought provoking.
If you have an hour or two, I highly recommend.

Well, if you are desiring to wander the outdoor sculptures and read all the signage I would say 11/2 to 2 hours. This would not include sitting and just being. If you have little ones they would probably enjoy more time to play but not patient to read. Many weekend days they have various groups that are there with events too. If you are asking about the indoor, hours for me
