BEST Shakespeare’s Mid Summer Nights Dream i have ever seen(and it’s one of my favorite plays). The level of exceptional physical comedy, bits of musical genius, timing and surprises that delighted everyone into spontaneous applause and laughter throughout the entire play was without end. I never wanted it to end either. But it did with a standing ovation. I hope to see it again before its over. What a gift! Thank you to all involved. Simply stunning.

Watching a play at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis is a special experience. The Wurtele Thrust Stage is especially enjoyable with seating that encircles the stage on 3 sides. There isn't a bad seat in the house and prices are kept at reasonable levels especially given the quality of the performances. We enjoyed seeing A Christmas Carol here last winter which is always delightful during the holiday season. I would preorder your drinks for intermission and enjoy some time out on the observation deck before the show or during intermission for wonderful views of the Mississippi River and Stone Arch Bridge.

We have been to the Guthrie Theater many times, both in the old building and this new one. One of the very best venues for live theater in the country. This time, since my daughter was was visiting from Arizona, we came here during the day. The Guthrie opens to visitors at 1 PM weekdays. So we decided to locate the Amber Room. Previous visits for attending plays it was always too busy to try finding it. It is really not that easy to find. You have to get to the 9th floor and that is possible on only one elevator. The views from the Amber Room are spectacular as it juts out of the building on the 9th floor to offer a very wide view of the river and and surroundings. Of course all views have a yellowish tint, hence the name. Plenty of people come here during the day for the views and for solace or meditation time.

The backstage tour was amazing! The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. You get to see all 3 stages, unique architectural features, props department, costume department, rehearsal room, set department, and more. The tour took about an hour and half. It was well worth the low ticket price.

The modern Guthrie Theatre is a performing arts theater -with incredible scenic views overlooking Minneapolis's Stone Arch bridge and creative and popular broadway plays.
The seating is all comfortable, great lighting and while we have ever only sat close to the stage, all views are great! We attended the back stage event they had over the summer as well, which was incredible. They have a long history.
For the views, you can take the elevator to the 5th floor Blue Room and view the gorgeous Park and Stone Arch. You can also an elevator up to the 9th floor yellow room where there are more incredible views. Highly recommend!

Top-class venue on the Mississippi. Easy transportation (parking, walking, car service) with lots of good restaurants nearby. The theater does a good job at providing detailed info about their productions, for example a recent long production advised there would be two intermissions. Great place to see outstanding theater.

The Little Shop of Horrors was one of the worst plays I have ever seen. My wife and I walked out after the first act. The songs were terrible, the story ridiculous, and the gallows humor NOT funny. After the cute/clever beginning with the drunken bum going to sleep on stage, the play went down hill. The actors playing Seymour and Mr. Munchnik were very good, but they alone couldn't salvage this bad play. Also, the seats at the thrust stage at the Guthrie were uncomfortable. They were narrow, with very little leg room. We will not be going back to this venue. It can't hold a candle to th Ordway in St. Paul.

My daughter and I saw Dial M for Murder on a trip to visit the U of M. The show was amazing!! We had a blast. Th theatre was wonderful. I cannot wait to go back for more shows!

Hello,
I am a frequent patron of the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and have been to a number of the productions there. Most recently West Side Story and Guys and Dolls. Neither those two plays or others in recent visits have I seen the name of the actress you mention. Perhaps asking at this forum is not the proper place to ask, as most people here are the Trip Advisor reviewers, not the staff of the Guthrie. Your best option is to go online to the Guthrie Theater website and ask your question there. Or you could call them. Best of Luck.

I am trying to be budget-conscious re tickets at McGuire Proscenium. I am considering seats along the wall on both sides on floor level and in the two outside sections of Balcony 1. Are they reasonably good seats? Thanks for your help.

There really are no bad seats. Most recently, my wife and I were in row K on the aisle and it was perfect seating. Buy the tickets you can most afford so that you are not bothered by it when watching the play.

Having dined before many Guthrie performances at many venues, I'd recommend 5pm reservations (even at the restaurants IN the Guthrie) - it's a very pleasant venue were you to arrive early, including an outdoor balcony w views of the river. Also an interesting gift shop.
