Lake Calhoun is the real name. Yes, he was a slave owning Democrat... but Democrats are the party of racism so what do you expect? That's why the Democrats changed the name.
Lake Calhoun is for hardbodies and gays. It used to be a great place 20 years ago, but nothing is safe with liberals in control. Be careful, don't go alone anymore. The views are good, but I'm done with the corrupt Cities. I don't even want to see the views anymore. Too many sad memories.

The name is wrong, it’s called Lake Calhoun, woke woke woke, absolutely horrible name now, can’t change the past, only the future.

Good trip. We arrived at approximately 8 pm and made our way towards the trail surrounding the lake. There were multiple parking spots available around the circumference of the lake. We walked a portion of the trail, that had unobstructed views of the lake all around us. We also watched the sunset from the location as well.
Tip: I recommend spending 30 minutes here (more if you want to walk the entire length of the trail)

Large beautiful lake, fun to walk and bike around. Trails are pretty good. It’s a busy place sometimes but it really varies.

Lovely lake, pretty good condition of trails. One way for biking or two ways for walking. Many places to stop and rest along the way

We didn’t do the full path around the lake because we were surprised you could swim in the lake that we went straight to the water and hung out at the beach swimming and watching the boats. I appreciated the porta potties nearby, but a water fountain would of been nice near the beach and the playground

Now called Bde Maka Ska. Beautiful city lake in the heart of Minneapolis. Great place to walk or bike. Kayaks and canoes can be rented from Wheel Fun Rentals located at the northeast corner of the lake. Kayaks were $14/h or $38 for half the day. In addition to enjoying Bde Maka Ska, Lake of the Isles can easily be accessed and provides a different but equally relaxing and scenic experience.

We rented bikes and rode around the lake. The bikes were terrible, but the lake was very nice. There are two separate paths for walkers and riders. Lots of people out enjoying the sunny weather.

I have never been to this lake before but found myself driving by and thought I’d stop and walk a bit. It is very beautiful- even while frozen. I will come back in the spring or summer, I believe, when the lake has thawed and there is more hustle and bustle.

We enjoyed several concerts, walks around the lake, flower garden walks, and kayak rentals during our visits to Lake Calhoun. We planned to visit once but there was still so much to do that we returned the next day to take it all in.

Hi, My husband grew up in Minnesota. On one visit to Lake Calhoun, he recalls a grave marker on a west walking path. It said "Life, like the day, is westering." We live in Massachusetts now, and would like to know if you've seen this? If so, or if you return and find it, we'd like to know the young woman's name and dates of birth and death that are on the stone. My husband said he thinks she died at 32. Thank you.

Is there a place there that we can rent bikes? We would like a bike with an infant seat attached for our 2 year old. Are the trails flat? Paved or gravel? Looking for something simple and safe since we'll have a young child.

I'd like to know about kayak rentals. Do you rent kayaks? How much? My wife an I love Lake Calhoun/Lake of the Isles and the Uptown area and we both want to try kayaking.

I believe there are kayaks at Lake Calhoun. You can check the Minneapolis Park aboard site for the fee structure but I recall seeing them there.

Hi there I was wondering, would there be enough parking at Lake Calhoun this weekend? i am doing the fat bike Loppet on Sunday. which starts Wirth Park and ends in Lake Calhoun, would you think there be parking at Lake Calhoun or would it most likely be all taken up with all the skiers and bikers etc? thanks

Hi the normal side street parking by the lake is prohibited for this weekend. Best to come at it from the side streets.
