Disappointed with the parking yesterday.

I have been shopping at Southland since 1970, I brought my cousin who is visiting from England. He shopped at Target, we ate at McDonalds, we had donuts after the movie which lasted 3.5 hours from start to finish. I am a Westfield member therefore I have four hours free parking, yesterday as the movie lasted so long we were over the four hours, absolutely ridiculous that we were not allowed another hours parking on top of the four when the movie lasted 3.5 hrs. After spending that money I still had to pay $9 parking. Kind regards

Take the train to family-friendly shopping centre

Southland is a very large shopping centre, managed by Westfield. You can take the train on the Frankston line to Southland station, which serves the south-eastern suburb of Cheltenham. Southland is a "three supermarket" shopping centre. It concentrates on fashion, entertainment, food and well-being. The centre has two playworld areas. It's not as big as Chadstone, but it's probably more family-friendly.

Easy to get lost

Southland is on both sides of the Nepean Highway and has escalators all over the place. There is a bus interchange underneath and a railway station nearby. It is easy to get lost with the corners and escalators going up and down. So I recommend you get a map, note what level you are on, and look for the main stores. This will help you get out when you have had enough.

Appalling ripoff

I have been shopping at Southland for over 40 years. The new parking rates are ridiculous $35! Goodbye Southland. I will be shopping at Chadstone from now on.

Give staff FREE parking

Ridiculous that staff have the PAY FOR PARKING! I can’t believe that staff are put in this ridiculous postion. 5 dollars a day is 25 a week. $100 a month, that’s $1200 on PARKING! WHAT A JOKE. This really just shows that Westfield doesn’t really give a single care about any of the employees at its centre. For someone who’s on close to minimum wage it’s an absolute joke, thanks for nothing Westfield, you suck.

We have resumed controlled parking at Westfield Southland to ensure that our customers can access parking as quickly and easily as possible when they visit. What does this mean for retailer parking? There is no change for retailers at Westfield Southland. Retailers will still be able to access secure dedicated parking areas at a reduced daily flat rate. Regards WS

The Biggest in the Area

Known locally as "Southland" the Department Store/ Shopping Centre/ Movie Theatre Centre is the largest conglomeration in the area (it is in the suburb of Cheltenham) - the next biggest "one place" shopping centres are at Bayside Frankston (25 kilometres South) and Keysborough (12 Kilometres East). Southland has extensive parking areas and spans across Nepean Highway. Extensive as the parking areas are it can still be difficult to find a empty parking spot on a busy day/time. In the multi-level parking areas which use a red/green light system - look to and scan the ceiling and you will see red and green lights which are placed above each parking spot - red meaning it is being used and green meaning the space is empty - a very handy innovation (but sometimes, rarely, it can be inaccurate!!!) The Southland complex uses a FREE 3-hour system after which you are charged for parking time. There is an automatic car park entry detection camera which records your vehicle number plate as you arrive - take careful note of the time you arrive! - and allow for the time it might take you once you get back in your car to leave and the estimated time it takes to get to the exit camera. There are some 400 shops in the Southland complex - clothing, restaurants, electronics, hairdressers, Bars, butchers, grocers, liquor stores, jewellers, travel agencies, banks - "everything". It is easy to spend 3 hours or more there. It is air-conditioned and opens from 10:00 am onward.

Good but tired

Good range of shops, nice to shop here but it does feel a bit tired in comparison to say chadstone, the glen or Eastland. It could do with a bit of a renovation but it has all the shops you could need.
