The Mississippi State Capitol is located downtown Jackson. We visited on a busy and interesting day, since a special session was in progress.
The present building is the third capitol in Jackson and is a beautiful Beaux Arts building, dating from 1903. We opted for a self-guided tour and had some nice supplementary information from the excellent staff.
The impressive Rotunda with the beautiful illumination was a great experience. The grounds too are really worth a visit.

You can visit it as part of a free tour, or on your own. Opted for the latter. Nice capitol, worth visiting if in the area. Just be warned, it is visited by school groups, so it can get noisy. There were a few when I visited.

We got there just in time to do the 1:00 PM tour. Our docent, Mackie, knew so very much about the past history of Mississippi as well as current happenings. She gave a very enjoyable tour and educated our group of six along the way. There was a lot going on there today and the press were all there filming a lengthy interview. I highly recommend visiting the capital building and seeing where our elected officials make the decisions that govern us.

Informative tour of both House and Senate Chambers, Old Supreme Court, Hall of Governors, Rotunda, and stained glass mezzanines. Guided tours given Monday-Friday 4 times per day.

The building caught my eye and since there was lots of available parking right there I had to stop and have a look. Great architecture and the grounds are very nice. Out front is a Liberty Bell, which apparently is a reproduction and a Monument to the Mothers of the Confederacy. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

We chose the Mississippi Capitol for our sightseeing during our stay in Jackson. Arriving on Monday morning, we were fortunate to get a tour from volunteer, Steve. He did an excellent job of pointing out the history and hidden facts in the building. Do not miss the picture of author John Grisham in the House portraits. The building itself is beautiful and compares favorably with most state capitols that I have seen. I recommend a visit, and a tour, preferably on Monday morning, especially when the legislature is in session. Look for Steve, the guide with the bow tie.

Loved the personalized Capitol Tour with Bill!
Bill and the staff made our visit from FL to Mississippi a great one. Bill had a fun scavenger hunt for my daughter and was extremely knowledgeable and thorough. Would recommend a visit to the Capitol to any visitors.

We called ahead and arranged for a private tour, and are glad we did. Our guide did an excellent job explaining the architectural nuances of the building. Don’t know how he got a done, but a turn-of-the-century governor was dynamic in his leadership in getting done for $1,093,000. She also did a great job intertwining Mississippi Constitutional separations as well as some political dynamics.
We are state capitol geeks. We enjoy going to state capitols and getting tours of the capitol buildings. In some respects they are all the same and at the same time all different. If you take the time to plan ahead to arrange a private tour, you’ll get a lot more out of it than just walking in, seeing another dome, and walking out. There’s much to see here if you take the time.

We found street parking across from the Capitol on Monday morning when the legislature was hurrying to finish its session. Depending on whether they are insertion, parking may be harder to find on the street.
