Good food, always pleased with my selections. Lunch is often very quickly brought out. This is very helpful for those with time limits. I recommend the Manship for lunch and dinner.

Had dinner with wife. And she said thus was her new favorite restaurant. I agree. The fresh veggies and local meats just taste so wonderful. I could eat here everyday.

This is a completely biased review, as I am a direct descendant of Charles Henry Manship and used to visit relatives who still lived there prior to it being converted to a museum.
The museum is currently closed for renovation, but is available for viewing by appointment, and the curator Marilyn Jones is happy to show off the house and explain why it is in its current condition, what it was like before and caused the need for the renovation, and what they expect to do to for the renovation. It could take one to two more years, given the state governments current priorities. She also helps arrange and participate in special events, such as ice cream socials, candlelight tours, and special event dinners (food was never allowed in the house when it was in full dress), and hopefully our next family reunion. Call her to make arrangements as we did!
When the house is in full viewing condition, it is a bit of a marvel because they not only have the house in full period dress, it is updated by season so over multiple visits you can get a better idea how people lived around the time of the Civil War.
C. H. Manship was the one time Post Master General for Jackson Mississippi as well as the mayor during the civil war. As a grainer, the house he built was a showpiece for his talent for making inexpensive woods look like more expensive ones or even the rarest of marbles. In addition, he painted all the wallpapers. Unfortunately, almost nothing remains of his original work outside of photographs, but his work was marvellously reproduced by a 5th generation grainer from England, Malcolm Robson, whose family still works to keep the tradition alive. He has promised to help with the renovation when the time comes, as well, and our entire family is proud to have his involvement.
During the Civil War, the house was used as a hospital for both Confederate and Union soldiers, alike, and on a tour you can get a full history of the house, from pre- to post-war.
Just remember, this is Mississippi, so don't forget the mosquito repellent!

It is not open. The house had some real foundation problems and they are being repaired. It was an interesting place to visit before the construction.

There is a small info center detailing Mr. Manship's life and house via display boards. A short video follows detailing the restoration process. Then a guided tour of the house. In total we spent 1 hour at this location.
