Little gem with great nature walks. Has a decent amount of variety. Don't swim in there though looks dirty. Though can see small fishes.

Get down to this spot on the river for a good chunk of pretty good sand. Might even be safe to swim this far up river. The surrounding bush reserve (see separate entry) has roads through it but down at the river, hear nothing but birds and frogs.

This small Council-managed bushland reserve has long been on my list because of its documented conservation significance. It was even more interesting than I thought, with a range of walks through varied terrain and habitat, and many plants that are rare, uncommon, and some that are officially threatened. The riverside walks were great, but there are also paths through higher ground in drier areas. Simmos Beach itself is a nice sandy area on the edge of the Georges River in a pleasant bushland setting, though probably very busy in hot weather. There are also picnic tables, toilets, kids' playgrounds, and access by car is easy - though if you travel down the main road, be careful of the drainage depression across the road - it would stop most low-slung cars, so needs to be traversed at an angle unless in a 4WD or SUV. Slightly weird hearing automatic weapons fire, artillery, and seeing Blackhawk choppers overhead, but this is a consequence of the reserve adjoining Holsworthy Military Reserve across the river.
