Great location but many restaurants need to step up and get with the times. Better off booking accommodation where you are able to cook yourself if you are a foodie

We stupidly decided to camp here for 1 night,
we pulled into our chosen campsite at 4pm.
Initially, we were chuffed to see a fellow camper had decided to pack up and vacate, leaving the best site in the whole camp open.
We thought it a little odd to be leaving right on dusk, but we were just happy to have a place to park for the night...
Then, even before we'd gotten out of the car, we realised we'd made a very bad judgement call.
The mosquitos here seem to have evolved into a superior species. Far more aggressive than your average garden variety, and so finely attuned to hunting the scent of humans, that as soon as your car comes to a stop they start swarming at the windows.
But it was too late now, roo hour was upon us.
So my partner bravely got out to open the camper, while I stayed in the car gathering our things. In this short time, half a dozen thirsty blood suckers had already made their way into the car, so I made a run for it to the sanctuary of the camper!
We slammed the door shut thinking we'd made it, we'd just hunker down until the morning.
But it wasn't long until we realised we weren't alone, that they were somehow getting into the camper!
What is this fresh hell??
Then begun the relentless effort of feverishly swatting, taking turns - one cooking, the other swatting and so on... we both began scratching, unsure if they were genuine bites or just the psychosomatic effects of the plague like infestation. Thinking back to the afternoon, we thought a few of the locals seemed a little twitchy and now we understood exactly why.
It was a losing battle, unable to workout how they were entering, we made the ultimate choice to seal the camper up like an airless tomb. We got to work with a roll of masking tape. Given the choice of being sucked dry of every drop of blood or dying a slow death of suffocation, the choice was obvious!
And before you wonder, of course we read some reviews before coming here but no review could truely prepare us for the reality.

Lots of choices of walks and we chose a 6km one. Very nice open paths and mainly flat ground. We then had a picnic at the surf beach lookout. Would recommend.

Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park is located in East Gippsland. The western section of the park is accessible by road via Seaspray and Golden Beach. The eastern section of the park is accessible only by boat.I accessed it at Loch Sport.
There are some very photogenic areas within the area ... it's serene. You could spend halcyon days here and energise your soul. The area is not face paced where you could expect extreme sports, loud parties and that buzz from a commercialised beach area. This takes you back to nature... this is a place to reconnect with basic instinct and return to nature.
While I visited on a brisk Autumn day ... I think this is one of those places that you could visit at any time of the year, each one bringing something unique to the landscape.

Lovely stop for a quite beach day, stroll, swim and small town for food and petrol. Plenty of accomodation options in the area and all walking distance to the beach.

What an amazing place to relax and unwind. Nothing pretentious, just low key and stunning. Time spent here is gold.

This place might be great for fishers & those not wanting to see many others, but it’s way too quiet for my liking. There are hardly any facilities, shops or activities. The other off putting thing is it is teeming with mozzies - so take plenty of insect repellent if you visit.

Nice beach but head up to the south coast of NSW for much better beaches. Cute town though with a good chip shop.

We regularly visit Golden Beach with our 4& 6 y.o’s who are not yet confident swimmers. The beach is shallow and water is usually a lovely temperature in the summer. Our kids love to float and paddle and practice swimming skills, without the fear or being knocked over by waves. It’s usually very quiet, as it’s a narrow beach away from the main tourist spots. Not a good beach if you’re after waves/surfing, but good for learning paddle boarding, etc. there are hire places nearby. Also there are toilets and bbqs, and playgrounds.
