I was passing through Kirksville and found a very interesting museum on the campus of the A.T. Still University. The museum had no admission charge and the exhibits were very well done. Dr. A.T. Still created the first school to teach Osteopathic Medicine.

As Kirksville is the birthplace of Osteopathy it is very neat the be able to tour thru and see how it all came about.

While visiting some friends in Kirksville, we stopped at the Museum of Osteopathic medicine. They describe the differences between traditional medicine and this field, have many old instruments on display and I really liked one of the oldest photos of the graduating class that has SO many women in it. Worth stopping to see while in Kirksville.

Small, but interesting museum, describing the early history of osteopathic medicine. The late 19th century was mostly frontier medicine, without formal training, and it is interesting how another school grew out of that chaos, with the goal of advancing the science of medicine. Things have evolved substantially since the early days, of course, but the history is neat. Many artifacts are on display, from those early pioneers.

We attended as part of a field trip. The museum is interesting but the tour guides brought it to a whole new level. Easily spent an hour there and loved the variety we discussed.

This museum offers a great display of the beginnings in America of osteopathy, and and the life of its founder, A.T. Still. Plan to spend more than an hour here.

I really didn't know much about osteopathic before visiting this. The museum does a very good job of explaining the history of osteopathic and how it has changed through the times. There is just enough history and detail to keep you interested. The herb garden outside was interesting but it is under a lot of stress because of the summer with a number of plants dying or dead. Parking is tough but you can park in the hospital lot next door.

A very interesting museum for anyone interested in Osteopathic medicine and it's history. Not a huge museum, but easy to spend 30-60 minutes there. Parking is a bit of a problem as we found no spots just for the museum, but we did find a spot close by (not sure we were supposed to park there, but no tickets or anything :-)

This is a must see and experience kind of place where you can walk back into and experience the place of Medical History that is not well known, but should be! Fascinating!
