I love this little hidden gem. Tucked away just north of I-44 along the Meramec River, not many people know how to get there, which is a good thing. This is a great place for a brief getaway. Nice for just watching the river flow by, or for taking a hike through the wooded trail.

At the time we went there were some wet spots that required going off trail, so I recommend going when it's dry. This was a beautiful trail, a little over a mile but interesting because of the forest and the somewhat hilly trail. There are a few other trails that connect so you can extend the hike.

I enjoyed my hike here today. This place is a great place to be in nature, but also has easy access to highways. If you just need to get away from things and want to be amongst the trees, want to climb a hill, want to get some good exercise, this is the place.
In addition to the 2 mile dirt and rock trail, which was quite muddy today in the middle of winter, there is also a shorter paved trail. Actually, I am not sure if the 2 mile distance I read about included the paved part of that, because you go on the paved part to get to the dirt trail.
The trail passes over a creek, and you can see this creek for much of the first part of the trail. Then it goes up a steep hill to a ridge, which gives you views of the Meramec River.
In addition to these trails, there is a picnic area and the restrooms there are open year-round (and they are real restrooms, not a porta-potties!).
There is also a large field where you can let your dog or kids run free. Well, the kids can run free - the dogs are supposed to be on a leash!
Perfect park for a road trip break!
Across the highway from this park is Powder Valley Nature Center (also part of the Missouri Department of Conservation)which also is worth a look!

This is another of my favorite places that I frequent with friends to hike! FREE admission and it is all self led. There is a large clean pavilion available for picnics with a clean restroom right next to it. There is ample parking as well. Emmeneggar sits between the Meramec River, I-270 and I-44, but hikers can easily block out the traffic noise to enjoy the trees and wildlife. While I do not know the distance of the trails I can tell you that with all the loops it is easy to get in as many miles as you want and keep it interesting with hills that will push your cardio. There are a few spurs that go down to the river as well. The part of the trail that is on the I-270 side of the park is the most challenging due to rocky terrain and I love it! For young children there is a figure eight paved trail that leads to a small creek which they love to play in. This park is great for families, couples and everything in between!

Emmenegger Nature Park is a very special and unique place. You will not find a park with more Ozark biodiversity within the Highway 270 beltway. A short paved lowland trail leads to an 1.8 mile unpaved loop trail with steep sections that take you up to a rocky ridge over the Meramec River.
In spring the lowlands along the creek are a fairyland of spring ephemeral wildflowers. Aesthetically beautiful and a great educational experience for budding botany students of all ages! In autumn the rocky ridge trail is gorgeous in vivid fall colors with boulder lookout points that have a breezy, faraway feeling of Ozark ridge tops. The riverfront is a rare undeveloped relic of Ozark riparian areas and important bird-wildlife mobility corridor.
Emmenegger is an officially designated nature park. It has strictly enforced leash laws. Please do not frequent for dog walking as it reduces bird-wildlife quality. If you do bring a dog, please keep it strictly on trail, pick up your dog poo and dispose of responsibly, discourage barking and disturbing others along the trails. Don't litter or vandalize. You can "pay back" your appreciation for this park by helping with volunteer honeysuckle removal. Please help keep this park an aesthetic and educational joy for visitors today and into the future!

This is essentially 2 hills and a valley. One hill is steep and overlooks the Meramec River. There is an asphalt path from the parking area across the bridge, but it ends part way through the park.
Dress in layers because the sun doesn't get down into the valley very warmly. It's a good walk, through too much invasive honeysuckle, but still a great place for exercise away from paved paths.

Any outdoor nature parks are a positive for communities. I just don't find this one to be easy to manage, access, or hike.

After looking online, we decided to give this park a try. There is a pretty decent part of the trail that's paved and has bridges. Saw some deer 🦌 just off the trail and they didn't get spooked when they saw us. Overall great afternoon!

My dog and I frequent this trail throughout the year. Some of the hiking area, going down the hill, can be a little slick in rainy weather. There are plenty of shady spots and scenic (looking towards highway 44) views. There are benches and areas to sit throughout the trail. Also, bathrooms (not open year round) tables for picnics, and places to play ball. The park is clean and we'll maintained. We have encountered a few dogs off leash, so be aware of that.
