We found this little secret out through a friend and decided to make it our adventure for the week.
My kids loved walking along exploring but their favorite part was at the end of our latest hike when we found the "kid" zone where they could climb and balance on tree stumps. We have been 4 times trying to make a video about it for our YouTube channel but only twice has there been parking so we could actually walk. At first I thought it was a pain but the more I think about it it has helped cut down on how many are exploring at one time and keeping it more nature than paths. We have never seen the waterfall in full force but we still enjoyed them.

Parkville Nature Sanctuary is an amazing for place hiking in the woods. It is located downstream of the Riss Lake dam, and the Alloe Creek runs through the Sanctuary. There are several loop trails totaling approximately 3.5 miles.
The Old Kate trail is the most popular one since it goes by the beautiful waterfalls. The White Tail trail is about 1.5miles long and goes up and down hills, but was less crowded. Numerous bird songs could be heard throughout the park.
The trail head is beautiful and has picnic tables, playground, ample parking and the old Parkville jail!

I had some friends visit from out of country and I wanted to take them to some beautiful places in KC. They saw views of the Missouri River and from city hall’s observatory deck but I thought the nature sanctuary would be great.
The trails here are all relatively flat and easy except if you want to climb up the small waterfall. We just walked to the fall and looked at it. It is quite pretty. Some of the trails were a little muddy as it had snowed a few days before and melted but not too bad.
There is a lot of tree cover so the trail is very shaded. I’ve done this trail in the day time and in the dark with a flashlight. At Halloween they make it a spooky trail though I’ve never been to that.
Bring some good shoes, a positive attitude, and maybe a camera and you will have a great time in nature. Even being close to a road I never heard the cars.

This is a very nice walk. When there has been a lot of rain the waterfall is awesome. One can hear the water from afar!

Until the rain stops for a bit and things dry out, the White Tail trail is pretty muddy, wet and darn near impassable at the end. Unless they figure out how to divert the excess water, it runs straight down the hill on the trail and it's pretty messy. The Old Kate and other trails are fine - and the waterfalls are beautiful!
It's super shady so would be really nice on a hot day (humid of course!). The amount and abundance of birds is pretty impressive as well. There's a playground for the kids and picnic tables as well. Really enjoyable spot!

The trails are beautiful and clean. I took my daughter for hiking and to see the waterfalls. This is a great free spot for hiking and nature excursion. We enjoyed the walking and butterfly path. We spotted many blue birds,cardinals, and butterflies. I recommend spending an afternoon here exploring. There are many old bridges,spots on the water for play and excellent place to take pictures. No dogs or bikes due to the wildlife. Enjoy!

I have lived in the Parkville area for about 20 years, and the Parkville Nature Sanctuary has always been a favorite of ours. We love going for hikes here.

Beautiful woods well maintained, great walking paths with natural waterfall. A wonderful sanctuary in town right off 9 Highway.

Looking for some nice walking trails in the Northland? Here they are! You can weave in and out of the open trails on the main loops or walk up into the more technical trail for a better workout.

If you love to hike and are in the KC area, this is a nice place. It only has a few miles of hiking, but they are well-maintained and there are clean facilities at the entrance. Easy to get to, and the waterfall is really pretty.

I believe there is a no pets rule. In the nearby English Landing park along the river there is a very big dog park though. Also you can walk a dog on a lesh in English Landing park which is in Parkville.
