We spent a summer weekend in St. Louis and really enjoyed checking-out the various neighborhoods, often drawn to them by a local business or a restaurant.
Although Compton Heights probably isn’t on the list of “must-see” places for a first-timer to St. Louis, it’s definitely worth your time, especially if you enjoy reading about neighborhood history and seeing historic homes. The avenues of Compton Heights are wide, and the homes are very impressive and represent a nice array of architectural styles. The neighborhood was clean, and the residents mostly seemed to take pride in their properties. There were also a couple of solid places to eat.
Easy enough to see from the car, but it’s definitely worth parking and taking a stroll. We found it pretty easy to find good historical write-ups about the neighborhood online.

I had read about Compton Heights and was excited to drive through this beautiful neighborhood. The historic architecture on display is varied and well maintained. My husband and I, as well as the young adults we had with us, were equally impressed. If you like historic architecture, the pleasant drive around this neighborhood will be a delight.

I have lived in St Louis all of my life and just discovered this historic district today! The neighborhood is rich in architectural treasures from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Beautiful woodwork, staircases, stained glass, leaded glass, and more! The Magic Chef mansion is the largest residence in South St Louis and was included in the tour of 10 homes.

Went on the house tour...this is a great area and beautiful homes on the tour. Not overpriced, there were so many houses we got tired walking between them.

If you love the by gone era of the 'old money' - this is must see. This was a neighborhood that has been kept up of the some of St. Louis' wealthy from the early 1900s. If you are lucky enough to take one of the tours - this makes it that much better to actually get inside of some of this magnificent homes.

Drive through and look at one of St. Louis's grand neighborhoods that has maintained its glamour. Lovely stately homes.
