My daughter and I drove from Chicago to LA along Route 66 this July. St. Louis was a 2-day stop along the way. We appreciated all the work Joe put into designing a Route 66 themed running tour just for us. It was clear that he took a lot of time beforehand to put thought into what we might want to see. He also was accommodating to our needs in getting the tour scheduled and in adapting to our running pace during the tour. We enjoyed learning about St. Louis and can't think of a better way to experience this area than via this running tour. If I'm back in St. Louis, I'd definitely schedule another running tour with Joe. One of the highlights of our trip.

A meaningful and memorable tour requires 3 key components. 1) You need a passionate guide. Joe Michaelree has got passion covered. He knows St. Louis, it's geography, it's rich history, and he can tell great stories that tie it all together. My tour consisted of a mixture of Architecture, Art, early settlement history, and baseball. All Joe's stories were great. However, even as I write this review 2 weeks after my tour, I keep thinking about Joe's personal story about Stan Musial. The story made me feel as though I were there as the event unfolded and left me with a sense of emotion. Passionate guides, who are good story tellers, will strike a nerve. Joe did that with me.
2) You need an attractive, interesting, scenic location: St. Louis has the scenery. Joe understands the geography in a way that allows for the ultimate photo opportunities. We ran along the river, we ran through parks, and we ran by very notable architecture. Of course the Arch is a given as a scenic land mark. However, there was another landmark building that had me equally excited. It was Louis Sullivan's Wainwright building. Sullivan was noted for impressive ornamentation on his buildings. I was impressed.
3) You need photos of your experience: Joe had the camera and took the photos. Lots of them. This allowed me to enjoy the tour and not worry about when and where to take photos. Joe had that covered. He sends the photos electronically at no additional cost.
Thank you Joe for showing me your great city. It was a meaningful and memorable experience that I highly recommend. And thanks for not running too fast.

Wonderful run through downtown, the sights paired with history told by Joe is unmatched by any museum experience Would definitely recommend to both those traveling in/through STL, and even locals!

Our family (parents and two teenage girls) did this running tour a week ago. We usually do walking tours on vacation, but found this running tour on TripAdvisor and thought we would try it . The tour was wonderful and a highlight of our trip. Joe was very knowledgeable about the area and answered our many questions. Joe was also very considerate of the pace we ran - he asked us several times if we wanted to go faster or slower. He also took great pictures which he shared with us afterwards via email/dropbox. I would highly recommend this to others traveling to St Louis.

I was visiting St Louis in the Hilton and signed up to 's tour. It was hugely interesting and great fun. He has a wealth of knowledge but makes sure the US references & the rules of baseball are explained to foreigners. the pace was good - he offered to make it faster or slower and was happy to vary things as requested. A good benefit is Joe takes photos en route

What a fantastic idea! I am a runner and was in town for my daughter's dance convention. The convention venue was the Hilton at the Ballpark, which coincidentally was the meeting place for the tour. I had been in contact with Joe, the owner/tour guide and his communication with me was excellent, so that I knew what to expect. I was the only person on the tour (he does the tour whether he has one or 10) and I told him I was a seasoned runner so he took me on more than the usual route. I got in 7 miles and a wonderful, history filled tour. I did the tour in downtown St. Louis and the Forest Park tour the next day. Joe is a history buff who obviously adores St. Louis and his love and pride for the city really shows. It makes such a big difference when the guide loves what he does! You get complimentary photos (he takes them for you and sends you the DropBox link) and an electrolyte drink, plus lots of good restaurant recommendations. Thank you Joe and I look forward to taking another tour if I'm back in town.

My husband and I booked a private tour from Joe on our honeymoon, he did an amazing job telling us all about the history and architecture of St Louis, took lots of pictures along the way, we got a short private tour of the first floor of the Campbell House, and went a bit farther than his normal tour, right around 6 miles total, and loved every bit of it!

I would recommend this tour very much. I have done various walking tours and photo tours and city excursions, though none in STL. This is good exercise and informative fun. The guy who runs it, no pun intended, has the right job: Joe's a super friendly human being with just the right mix of content and humor. The emphasis is on history, with baseball and bars also covered. The proprietor -- the business is just him -- was able to talk about difficult subjects such as the Dred Scott case and the Civil War with sensitivity. Really, he's just a guy you feel is a friend right away. I like to support this type of entrepreneur.
The first half was such an easy pace I was thinking I would write a review saying that if you were ambulatory you could complete it. But the second half, along the river, was faster. The guide adjusts based on the group.
I cannot imagine not enjoying this, other than if there is a weather issue. (Incidentally, every race I have run has a policy that they hold it rain-or-shine and they charge you. I understand why. Otherwise, people would punk out. They are forcing you to fulfill your commitment. I support that, even when I have resented it. So I hope nobody gives Joe a hard time.)
I took many photos, and I just caught up with the group. Joe was easygoing about that. He takes a few snapshots to share.

My husband and I were in town for a friend's wedding and only had a short time to explore the city. The St. Louis Running Tour with Joe was the perfect way to see the sights in the morning before the festivities! We were lucky enough to get a private tour with Joe - he was super friendly and knowledgeable, and kind enough to accommodate our timing and squeezed a lot into our 2.5 hours together. Loved all the history we learned, as well as the many pictures he took, and the shirt! Would recommend this tour to anyone - you won't be disappointed. :)
