You could not fish in a more beautiful spot.
There is a lot of pocket water and riffles and falls. You cannot walk along this river much. You have to pick your spots but there are plenty. The fish are not all that big. But the canyon is stunningly beautiful for several miles above and below Big Sky.

Beautiful Grandeur!
We spent four nights at a cabin in the north end of Gallatin Canyon and experienced one of the most memorable summer getaways ever on our first venture to Montana. The August weather was perfect from the low 80s in the day to the mid 60s at night. (The high that week in north Texas was 104F.) The views along the Gallatin River between the Gallatin Range and the Madison Range are spectacular. The river offers rafting, hiking trails, fishing, camping, and more. Gallatin Gateway is a convenient locale to visit Bozeman, Big Sky, and Yellowstone. This is now on our short list of places we will return to visit.

We drove along it on 2 different occasions. It is just so pretty as it rushing along the side of the highway. There were a lot of people fly fishing & also rafting. Just people enjoying the beautiful weather. Loved seeing it.

Great Flyfishing

Truly a blue chip fishery in the Western states. Plenty of roadside access, and not too challenging to wade. This lovely river features excellent pocket water, nice tail water, and a fine selection of riffles. With the many turnouts, pick your favorite water and enjoy. There are no drift boats, so it’s perfect for wading. Not too big and not too small. Loved it.

A joy

There are many pretty rivers in the west but this one may be my favorite. I first drove along it on my honeymoon 29 years ago before flying out of Bozeman. It’s so enjoyable driving along the road with constantly shifting views of the river but even more delightful to stop and spend some time on its bank. It is full of peaceful energy.

World class blue ribbon trout stream threatened by Big Sky sewage
This river flows out of Yellowstone Park but is quickly polluted by Big Sky resort’s sewage spills which happen on a regular basis. Yesterday March 3, 2020, 65,000 gallons spilled out onto a lower ski run due to a malfunction and water quality tests are being performed above and below stream.

An amazing place with a mountain and a rapid river.
While we were at the Gallatin Canyon, we saw the Gallatin river. The water was going quite fast.

Wit the mountain behind us and the Gallatin river close to us, we were enjoying the beauty in this place. Wow!

This is worthwhile to see!

Gallatin River can be hiked, rafted, fished in or just sat next to and enjoyed. The views are excellent whichever activity you decide to do.

Stunning views, fly fishing and rafting
2019年7月 • 夫妻情侣
Gallatin River is best seen in the Gallatin Canyon on Hwy 191 between Bozeman and Big Sky. The 30 mile stretch has a highway and river running side-by-side the whole way. Mountains and blankets of pine trees climb up both side of the canyon.

The river is reasonably shallow and fast moving. It's great for fly fishing and rafting. The whole stretch is mostly class I with a few class II rapids. We saw multiple float groups going down the river. It's a perfect place to enjoy a fun ride with stunning views. Fly fisherman have miles of river to try their hand at catching trout.

The river is very accessible. There are pull outs all along the way to park and walk down to the river. We saw many fisherman in the river with their cars parked nearby. If you want to raft down the river, there are plenty of outfitters that a quick google search list out.

What a beautiful gorgeous wonderful river.
