Unbelievable scenery

Best scenery outside of Yellowstone. Easy switchback paved road to the lake. Best to get there in the morning so the sun shines on the falls.

Went up to go fishing. Good road to lake. Good parking. Nice little lake to fish in. Fish are stocked each year and readily take the lure.

Great camping

We try to spend a weekend at Angel Lake every year. The water may be cold but everyone always enjoys swimming in it. The hiking around the lake is amazing. If you have the chance & the energy hike to Smith Lake.

A very serene place

This beautiful small lake is about 5 or 6 miles up a paved hillside road. It was quite crowded when we were there with the parking lot about full. There were people fishing, boating (without motors) enjoying the beach. I was amazed at how many people there were there as I lived in Wells many years ago and the road to Angel Lake was dirt and gravel and I could go up there and be alone, sometimes only one other person. Evidently the word is out as to how beautiful it is. It is a must see if you are in that area.

went up to the lake after a snow and it was beautiful, the road said closed but it was clear all the way up, you could get stuck if their was a lot of snow so be aware and ready to turn around(may have to back down )if you run into snow covered roads! it is worth the 12 mile drive up to the lake there are picnic areas and camping area, and Angle creek (about 8 miles up watch for sign)offers camping for rvs $15 a night?

Beautiful, but not the relaxing getaway we had hoped for
2017年7月 • 夫妻情侣
Angel Lake was beautiful. The paved access road is plenty wide enough to drive comfortably for a regular size car or truck, but it does have a lot of very high drop offs with no guardrails, only a 2-3 ft shoulder. We tent camp, but I wouldn't want to try and bring an RV or trailer up the mountain AT ALL. All the vehicles at the campground were cars like us, or small campers/ camper vans. We visited for 4th of July weekend. The lake was much too cold for swimming and the cliff face behind the lake still was about 25% covered in snow. Nightly temps were in the low 50s F and daily highs were in the mid 90s F. The pit toilets could have been better, as one was so full that someone in our party had splash back from the pit splash on them. As there are no showers, we did the best we could cleaning them up with baby wipes, but they still smelled like other peoples' feces. Disgusting! But that could have been avoided by walking further to another pit toilet that wasn't so full. I'm sure visiting on a holiday weekend made the toilets much more full as well. There was plenty of toilet paper in all pit toilets and they were cleaned every morning by the wonderful camp host. Whoever is responsible for emptying the tanks of the toilets however, should do it more often in peak use times. The campground is in a lovely location high on the mountain. It overlooks the mountain and a few mountain ranges in Nevada on one side, and angel lake/cliff face on the other. The lake IS NOT visible from any campsite in the campground simply because of the slight slope of the ground and low tree cover; so a campsite that looks like it's beside the lake online, isn't within view of the lake in-person. All campsites are large and feel private because of the low tree cover. The campsites themselves are pretty small, but there is a lot of space between sites that is covered by small brushy-type trees, so the campsites feel private. We would not have reserved at all, if we had known one thing. The thing I wish we had known before we reserved was that there is NO SHADE AT ALL in any of the sites at the campground and only a bit of shade on the far side of the lake. There are a lot of trees everywhere, but they are twisted and only about 3-4 feet tall. Ultimately our party decided to leave early and skip the last night of our reservation (despite having prepaid) because it was so hot in the campground. We were baking in the sun, getting sunburnt bad despite wearing sunscreen, and everything in our campsite was too hot to touch for about 7 hours of the day. I realize it's July in Nevada, but we thought at 8600 ft elevation in the National Forest, it would be cooler and shadier. All in all, Angel Lake is a wonderful campground and I would absolutely come back again during a cooler time of the year! Also, the hike starting from the trailhead parking lot beside the campground is absolutely magnificent! It's a moderate hike, with some strenuous up and down, but the views of the surrounding mountain ranges lower than you and the meadows of wildflowers against the snowcapped Ruby mountains are just gorgeous. We only hiked about 2 miles round trip, but it was still enough to see some of the beautiful scenery. We were in campsitesite #13 (which we recommend because of the view and privacy). Also there were lots of birds and we spotted 2 deer on the road.

Angel Lake - beautiful but crowded
2016年8月 • 独自旅游
Nice drive up from Wells, NV with hardly any cars on the road. But when I arrived, the pristine lake I remembered from 20 years ago was crowded with people, garbage, off-leash dogs who were not friendly and should have been leashed. Worth the drive, but be prepared if you go on a nice weekend.

Gorgeous View, Scary Drive
2016年7月 • 家庭
The road to Angel Lake is....harrowing. It's a very narrow winding road that in spots is barely big enough for 2 cars to pass. If you can get past the drive....the lake is gorgeous. While we haven't camped or fished there, we always see people fishing and catching a lot of fish. It's a nice cool getaway from the heat of the desert.
