I mean, it's a rock. It's big. There is not much more to say. The only reason why it is not 5 stars is because there is a lot of graffiti on it.

We visited the boulder, and weren't sure what to expect. It's off the main road a bit, with a small parking lot and well-trod path to the boulder. It's huge - a massive chunk of granite that hitched a ride tens of thousands of years ago. But that's kinda it - we walked around it a few times, read the signs, went "Neat!" and continued on our way.

A fascinating little side trip if you’re planning on driving The Kanc. At 4662 tons, 87 feet long and 37 feet high, to say this thing is huge is a tad underwhelming lol.

There’s a little parking area that was virtually empty on my visit - me and one other couple were there. To get to it, you have to drive a very bumpy dirt road so if you have a low vehicle, be really slow and careful ....had some large, deep potholes and wash boarding! The car behind me didn’t even dare it and turned around lol! Trust me, it’s worth it tho!

There’s a short, flat hike to get to the boulder after you park - it’s so lovely and peaceful! And during October, the vibrant fall colors make it a marvelous wonderland to meander through! Some of the path is paved and some isn’t - mostly just soft, dark dirt. Once you reach the boulder, the sheer size will have you in awe! There’s plenty of pathway to walk around it and take photos etc. There are a couple of signs around with info about the boulder.

There are no bathrooms and the cell/internet signal is non-existent so plan accordingly!

This is one of those odd, fascinating, natural attractions that you will be happy to say you stopped and took it in. Short drive down a dirt road, followed by a short, easy 10 minute walk to the boulder/glacial erratic. Educational & Entertaining. Enjoy your visit!

Amazing how huge this Boulder is, easy walk , glad we took the time to do this mini adventure! Had a 4 and 5 year old with us and they were amazed by the size!

En route to Conway we took a small detour onto the 113 off the 16, and once in Madison, followed the signs for the Boulder - very well signposted. You should find it easily. The small car parking lot holds about five cars. Be sure to wear insect repellant as you have a short five minute walk along a broad flat footpath through a forest in order to reach the Boulder. WOW. It's a magnificent example of a glacial erratic - a massive rock that has been deposited here by a glacier. There is a small information board explaining it all and great photo shots from all angles. And it's absolutely FREE of charge! Fantastic. Our only disappointment was that one or two senseless people have graffitied parts of the Boulder. Thankfully their actions are not visible from a distance, only close up.

That’s one huge rounded rock. North America’s biggest glacial eratic means the glacier plucked it from about two miles away and carried it here. When the glacier melted, it was stranded. One of the biggest in the world. Worth seeing. Minimal signage does a good job of explaining. Easy to drive to small parking lot. Then walk on a wide level gravel path for about 2 hundred yards through a beautiful forrest. Everything well marked. A must-see for nature lovers.

My husband and I trekked into the area to see the huge boulder. He has mobility issues but was able to walk the pretty path into the site. One does not expect to see such a large boulder sitting there. Interesting. If you are interested in geological features you might want to check out the large boulder at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester, MA. It is 60 ft. high and 2 hundred yards wide. It was said to be an ancient ritual stone used by the Native Americans in the area. Unlike the Madison boulder the one in Gloucester is accessible from the back by steps that have been carved into the stone.

The size of the boulder is amazing. The fact that it was moved be an ice shelf is unbelievable because of it's size. Bring mosquito repellent, the boulder is surrounded by trees and the mosquitoes are bad.

Your first impression is wow it's just a big rock. Then you walk around it and it just seems so out of place, Then you ponder it and holy crap this is just plain amazing, I mean how did this ever get here, oh yeah, it got pushed by a glacier. I think it's a must see but than again I live this stuff. 2662 tons of rock, whats not to like.
