Strawbery Banke's Puddle Duck Pond ice skating is now taking place and is very popular with locals and tourists alike. There's a firepit at one end to warm up and great music to skate to.

This place is definitely worth seeing. I’d you love history and want to learn more about the area don’t miss Strawberry Banke. If you come in the wintertime there is also ice skating. I highly recommend going.

I visited September 19th on a cool, cloudy Monday in New Hampshire. And I wouldn't have it any other way (haha). Despite being a native New Englander I had never been to Strawberry Banke despite driving through Portsmouth throughout my life. If you are a history buff like me, you have to stop in and check it out! Expect to be there for a minimum of 2 hours. there is a lot to see and learn about. You can buy tickets online, parking is free, and the staff is very friendly. If possible I would highly recommend going on a weekday.

Great history. Amazing homes. hearing the stories and reading about this area was very interesting. Puddle Dock was a highlight for sure.

Amazing place! People in Portsmouth, NH bought over 30 old homes and renovated most of them to their past glory days. Some homes, such as the Governor's Mansion, were moved from other locations. A few costumed interpreters, but mostly docents staffed this wonderful living history museum.
The older woman interpreter sitting outside the Little Corner Store made World War 2 daily life and rationing come alive.
One house was fascinating, divided in half showing how the first residents lived in the 1700's and the last in the 1950's.
Don't miss this first class museum!

This is a delightful visit to other eras in American history. Each house in the museum tells a different part of the story. Some are restored to show life around the time of the American Revolution, others are from the last century. A handful of interpreters are available to fill in bits of history, and a few are in costume. We've visited at least three times over the last five years and have enjoyed it each time.

Very interesting Museum. A nice place to go to see the early history of Portsmouth. Plan on 2-3 hrs to take in the entire experience.

Walking is mostly on gravel paths, not real even. There are steps into most of the buildings, some without railings. Some houses have upstairs (we skipped those). We are not young, but with patience we got into most places that we wanted to see. If they have mobility issues, it could be a challenge.

I’m not sure if the baby animal exhibit is an ongoing event at the venue. I believe it was a special exhibit for spring and would advise anyone visiting this venue to check their website or The Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce website for current event information in the city! Worth a visit anytime of year.

Strawberry Banks is not a seasonal attraction so it will be available for you and it is self guided. I hope you enjoy it. The employees make it very interesting and educational.

I didn't see any while I was visiting there. I doubt they'd be allowed in the historic buildings. Worth a call to ask

Our candle light stroll included a special dinner at the tavern (only at Xmas). Taking this into consideration, one should allow at least 3 hours. A lot of this depends on any lines that one may have to stand in to get into some houses.

Could someone in their late 20's/early 30's please give me your opinion on this location? I see a lot of wonderful reviews from older folks and families with children, but I'm curious if a younger couple (traveling without children) would enjoy this. Thank you!

If you are into history enjoying an interactive if you are so inclined walking tour YES! Any age range will enjoy this Living Museum, take as much time as you wish. Check the Web site for activities that are going on, the Christmas stroll and festivities are great.
