We drove 3+ hours round trip to visit Lakota. We chose to hike up the hill rather than take the shuttle-steep but pretty short. We really enjoyed seeing the beautiful animals and learning about them. It was great that they were trained to come to the fences and engage with their caretakers at presentation time.
Only drawback was two crying/screaming children in our group who not only prevented us from hearing parts of the speeches, but they also scared some animals away. There are posted signs to remain quiet and that loud patrons will be asked to leave, but this was not enforced. The presenter made a comment after she was finished, so she was clearly frustrated too, but nobody asked the irresponsible parents to leave.
I would visit again but hope we get luckier with a more respectful group.

Bravo to these folks for protecting these gorgeous animals and teaching the public about them. This is truly a labor of love for them and the operation is very well run. Went with adult children and we all really enjoyed out time with the wolves.

I visited the preserve yesterday and had a great time despite the constant rain. There is a shuttle to take you back and forth from the parking area to where the wolves are or you could hike. The preserve is owned by a husband and wife team that are very knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have. The best part was when they had the wolves howl together. There is a small camp store that has some souvenirs but it is owned by the campground not the wolf preserve. You can purchase items on the preserve’s website so they make some profit off of your purchase to care for the wolves. It’s a short tour but very interesting and the price is reasonable. There were quite a few families/kids so bring your kids.

Great way to get up close to these amazingly beautiful animals. Very good information given by the owner and his wife. Will give you a new perspective into these wonderful animals. Would recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about wolves.

This was a fun Father's Day excursion with the family after spending a few nights camping at Taylor. The guides give you a great tour and alot of information and its fun to see these beautiful animals up close. Everything was totally fenced in and safe.

This is definitly a lovely warm place to visit. The couple that protects and provides for the wolves are clearly knoweldgable and care about the wolves, fox, and cats they nurture. On a warmer day this is definitly an ideal location to just hike too, perhaps lunch in and hang out but on a cold winter day when we visited this is not an ideal place.
I would say there are a few things that did bug me about this place and in some way I hope this is taken more constructively then me just being a meanie.
For the most part while I respect the amount of info the guides provide it's overkill. Standing in one spot for 30 minutes is not ideal, not a cold day or a warm day. It would have been nicer to just spend some time quitely watching these beautiful animals.
The viewing area is a bit of a letdown. It's a narrow gated corridor that is a few steps from the bus drop off. This could just be but I was expecting to see more of the premises. I am not saying I want to go running with wolves (pun intended) but on the website I was assuming you go to several areas to observe the different breeds of wolves. That's not how it is. It's a narrow gated corridor where you learn about wolves. The wolves did how and come super close and it's pretty cool.
The biggest complaint and I do hope this gets fixed is the situation with shuttle buses. It was a freezing cold day. Many of us could no longer handle the outside listening about the fox they are nurturing. It was too much and too cold. However as we are sitting on the bus. One leaves. Then another finally arrives. And is about to leave again. Old people, young people sitting on the bus had no idea. We are just waiting. There was no communication "hey folks im bringing this back up" or "Hey are you all going back down?" Heck even a "If you want to hike down it's 10 minutes super easy" Would have been nice.
I hope this was just a one off due to the cold. But I think especially because it was so bone chilling a bit of care couldn't hurt. Just let us know is all.

Fabulous time seeing endangered animals and hearing why their numbers continue to drop! The host couple was informative, funny and very passionate about what they do! Over 10:acres of space for different types of wolves, bobcat and fox!
We had four teens who had to get up early on a Sunday and all agreed it was worth it! That alone is a glowing endorsement!

This was such a beautiful experience. A wonderful couple has chosen to use lots of acreage to reserve for wolves, foxes and Bob cats to live their lives in peace. They educated us on the ecology and habits of these beautiful creatures. This is very different than a zoo. They make it so that you can see them and admire them but definitely make sure the animals are in a comfortable spot and not like trick animals. Be ready for the current weather and that you will be standing to listen to some great information. Children should understand this AND that they should not bother the animals. You will definitely appreciate nature and what these people are doing for the environment

What kind of COVID precautions do the hosts take/have guests take? Is all of the experience outdoors, and is everyone masked?
We'd love to go, but obviously also want to remain in good health!

Yes, it is all outside and CDC guidelines are followed. I was easily able to socially distance and still see and hear everything. The number of attendees is limited. We walked from the entrance to the preserve or you can ride the bus. They do a lovely job and would definitely go again.

Hello there,
I would like to know if doing the educational wolf tour there is any opportunity to be able to snap a picture or two of the wolves without the gates in front of them being in the picture. I see small portals in the gates that would take care of this but I don’t know if that is only for the photographer tour for $300 or I can use the portal during the education wolf tour. I am not a photographer. I just want to take a picture or two with my cell phone. Is this possible? Really excited to visit. Thank you in advance.

During the educational tour the portals are not open and you would not be able to snap a pic with a cell phone without the fence in your pic. The educational tour is great, you will have a wonderful time and probably have the opportunity to hear the wolves howl!

Hi
Their website says that they have wolf tours twice daily. Is this true for weekends as well? It would help to get this information to plan our travel time accordingly. Also they say that reservations are not required for weekends. Hope that still stands!
Best regards

Is it better to do the morning tour or the afternoon tour, in the winter? Which one is better for the wolves?

in the winter you will see just as much at either tour. summer time the morning tours are better because it is still cool out

How long do you have at each enclosure? If I can get down there I would like to shoot both video and photos. Is there room for tripod use on the private photo tours?

the private photo tours are 2 hours long. you can use a tripod on the private photo tour but not on the public educational tour.

I don't advise a stroller. Viewing areas are not paved, only gravel & dirt (mud in that season).
