according to website, water is fine, but report is from 2019 !!, then it says, water quality tested yearly, but they do NOT publish report. could the preserve publish water quality reports, or take down the report from 2019, as that is misleading.

Best fall foilage with reflection in lake. The trail are little rough at some places but manageable even with preschoolers.

Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve has well maintained formal gardens and hiking trails. A waterfall is a prominent feature in this preserve and they have metal benches to sit on and enjoy the view. When I visited they had just planted fall mums. Signage is limited but there was one information board on butterflies.
The 2.3 miles of hiking trails are almost flat with tree roots breaking the surface. The brook running through the reserve was a pleasant diversion from a rather monotonous terrian. There were a few wooden foot bridges that traversed swampy areas but i am not certain what the trails would look like in a serious rain.
To some it up, the Franklon Lakes Nature Preserve has some nice features but lacks a real ability to provide a hiking experience. It is more like a beautiful stroll as opposed to a hike. The Franklin Lakes Library which is adjacen to the preserve is a good pace to park.

Beautiful, quiet, serene...but muddy!!!!!!! Many muddy holes ...wear shoes that you don't care about ..some uneven pavement and tree roots...watch your footing....I lived in Franklin Lakes, and never knew such a pretty hiking trail was so close......

A wonderful place to relax, commune with nature, have a picnic, walk or run, without crowds. We loved bringing our dog and walking him there. My only regret is that we don't go there often enough.

Found this place today. A hidden gem in Franklin Lakes New Jersey off a busy road. Beautiful ,serene hiking trails around the reservoir. There’s kayaking as well. Some parts of the trails have lots of exposed tree roots, stones and large rocks. Some parts of the path are muddy and narrow. I’m glad I found a heavy tree branch I could use as a walking stick because I needed it in a few places. Also could use more signage because I had to pull out my phone compass to figure out if I was going in the right direction when the lake wasn’t visible. But if you want to escape for 2 1/2 miles it’s a lovely place to do it , with the right foot wear. Trail goes up and down in a few places but no extreme elevations.

We rented a Canoe and a Kayak and spent some time enjoying the trail around the lake. Not a crowded place.

We have been here many times and we are so lucky to have a place like this so close to home. Beautiful trails with floating bridges over the water . The only downside is that some of the trails can be water logged or very muddy after a lot of rain.
There are also kayaks available for rent in the warm weather months from Ramsey Outdoor that is onsite.

What a find so close to the house. This was a nice and easy trail with many points looking on to a lake and Mountain View’s. There are kayaks and paddle rental available. Sneakers and hiking shoes are a must, there are some parts of the trail that was muddy and rocky; we had saw some people with sandals?? Dogs are welcome. About 2 miles, great quick hike.
